Whats up fella's? I had a minor alteration to my next trip. The wife's grandfather cant really make the trip up north, so her mom, dad and 2 brothers are meeting us in Nakhon Sawan for a 3 or 4 days. Then I will head back to BKK and onto an island, but I would like to make the most of my time in Nakhon Sawan. Does anyone have any knowledge of things to do, restaurants, etc? I understand it is very beautiful and that it could be a bit chilly in late November (which is fine by me.) I should add, all the in-laws will be there so I am not seeking P4P while I am there However, her brothers are 21 and 24 and like to drink..so bars/karoke would be fun for a night or two. From what my wife tells me...the house is not far from the main part of town... any tips would be appreciated. cheers, atl

While in Nakhon Sawan you can go and visit Wat Nongpo, Temple of venerable LP Doem (famous for making the best ritual Buddhist knife ever, he died in the 50's) Also you can ask about the Temple of LP Djoy, this Venerable is approx 95 years old and rather famous too. Sorry, this is all I know about Nakhon Sawan LOL Madfrog

atl, Apparently this area is famous for biscuits?? ( read cookies for yanks). From a farang point of view do NOT expect it to be actually cold in November,,, cold for Thais that think anything under 30 celsius is winter maybe,, but not cold. Afterall its only 200 odd kilometres from BKK. Enjoy,, AHHH and if you see any good land there near a river or lake at around 500,000 BHT per rai LET me know

Mel, Cheers mate! The wife says it is all chinese cookies that they produce there, for the chinese festivals. I understand the temp factor...my wife frekin freezes here in LA when it drops below 85 when she says it is "chilly" it is probably 79 or 80 degrees! And actually, this is where I am thinking about building my retirement house..... her grandad has 16 rai there, I will scope it out. Before the inevidable pessimistic posts come, dont worry, I will not drop more than I can afford to loose LOL! Her brother called yesterday and told me about a cool bar, and said he had a raft that we could stock up with beers and get on the river, he said it was clean enough to swim We will see about that! Madfrog, Thanks for the tip! It will probably end up being 3 days of drinking/cooking with the in-laws..but I will make the best of it! It doesnt appear many BTF members have been there but anymore tips/stories are appreciated. cheers guys, atl

atl; I've got nothing to add. Even the cookies is a highlight I missed. Remember that first trip back I mentioned? Guess where I went visiting my in-laws? It was early December and word "chilly" did not cross my mind. Been there. The wife was born there. The relatives still have some land there. Grandma, uncle and a few others. Not in town, never got into the city/town itself - "not far" can mean anything I've found, I rode the father-in-laws motor bike around (in a t-shirt to protect against the cold) and enjoyed the countryside, but most BTF members would call it Nakon Nowhere. That said, I might build a holiday shack there one day. Enjoy.

I've been there several times now, maybe 5 times now. All the times I've been there I stayed right around the Ferryland Plaza Mall. I like the place and am trying to work out a stop there on my november trip. But there is really nothing there, I just find it a pleasant place to spend a (as in one) night. Over by the begining of the Chao Phayra River they have food stands and a little nightmarket which is pleasant. And although I didn't do it, you can take boat rides around there also. I also had some good roti's by the mosque near ferry land plaza. I bought some Celebrex for my mom at the cheapest price I'd seen for the stuff in Thailand.

Quick update on Nakhon Sawan. Mrs Shreddie and I stayed there for a few days at the end of April while visiting friends who have recently relocated to Thailand at Tha Tako near to Nakon Sawan. We all stayed at a hotel in NS called the Asia. It is a new hotel on the main road a little way past the Big C. Clean hotel. Air con rooms. Satelite tv. Restaurant/bar downstairs with a small karaoke thing going on at night. Exceptional value at THB 550 per night. There was a separate THB150 key deposit payable when we checked in and that was taken off our final bill. The hotel was busy with mainly SE Asian tour groups. Night entertainment consisted of the boat trip on the river - sanuk, although Nakhon Sawan by night from the river is not very spectacular. There is also a music park by the lake with many restaurants and we enjoyed good food and drink there. We also had a good night out at a beer centre/nightclub attached to another hotel in NS - I think it was called the Hotel Piman. Daytime entertainment consisted of the temple on the hill overlooking the city - mentioned in an earlier post I think, and which has great panoramic views. And the Big C shopping complex (includes a small bowling alley and a cinema on the top floor). I have a separate story about the Big C which I will relate in a different post. The Asia Hotel offers TTM but Mrs Shreddie and I chose instead to go for a TTM at a place called "Lotus" next door to the Asia Hotel. Downstairs it is a thai cafe, and we had to go up to the 3rd floor for our massage. Crowded with many mattresses on the floor, no curtains to give privacy to any mattresses. Very busy with many thai clients (I was the only farang customer). Decent massage although mine was given by an old Thai battleaxe. Notwithstanding that I would have enjoyed my TTM more if it had been given to me by a young nubile, THB240 for a 2 hour TTM was good value. We were lucky that the monsoon rains were just starting as we were leaving. So we avoided the floods that plagued the area a few days later. But I remember saying to my friend when we were admiring the view from from the temple on the hill, of the river twisting through the landscape, that certain outlying places must lie on a huge flood plain.

I would think that most Thais will tell you that Supunburi is the hitman capital of LOS Nakorn Sawun is the premier place for manufacture of what the Thais call Kong Fahk. Little gifts of candy/cookies they buy when travelling At most of the bus stations and other places to buy Kong Fahk throughout the nation you can find candies/cookies made in Nakorn Sawun
