Hope Dude doesn't mind me butting in but I'm going to Koh Samui in January to meet with some friends. The hotel they are staying in is the Mercure in Chaweng, but it's about 1300 baht a night! Can you recommend any where a little cheaper, that is clean, not too far away from the action, en suite, and most importantly GUEST friendly

Spanky. I was wondering where your friends booked the Mecure hotel in samui . I was looking at the prices and it was quite high. 1300 bht is excellent. It looks a very nice hotel. I am looking at going to samui in Jan but I dont know which hotel to stay. Can anyone help me.

P&P Resort, in the centre of Chaweng Beach is reasonably priced with an excellent location. The Mercure is nice though not near the beach. Sorry Mercure.

Mercure Hotel is really not neat the beach. We used to have parties there when I worked for one of the hotels in Chaweng. The hotel itself is nice, but there is nothing but the Gokart track around.
OP & PP Bunglow are okay and reasonably priced. Especially the location is nice. both are appr. 700-1000 Baht walkin rate depending on the season.
Good luck my friend. You should also check out whether you can get one of the beachside bungalows of the former Jah Dub (I think they call it 4 seasons now). They are about the same price, perfect beach and view, nice staff and so on. Highly recommended. Two of them are renovated 6 months ago.

Chewang resort right next to Imperial Samui is reasonable and is middle of all the action. Same owner also owns the samui yatch club which is inbetween lamai and chewang beach but cheap and not too far away from either beach
