Hi everyone, I'm planning to be in Koh Samui this Dec. I will be missing the full Moon Party, but should be able to swing by for the Half Moon Party. I wanted to know how good it really is, and is it worth planning my trip around. I've heard that KS is great in Dec anyway, but will this party be anything exceptional, or just pale in comparism to the real thing. Thanks

Samui meanwhile offers:
Blackmoon Party AND Halfmoon Party on Secret Beach in Maenam. I went there over a dozen times and enjoyed it very much. The beach will be set up with neon lights and appr. 300-1000 people (depending on the season) are dancing until 5:00 in the morning. Music is trance, techno and acid house. Drinks are offered for 50 (soft) and 100 (singha) to 120 (Heineken) - quite expensive but you can tank before the party. Be there at 1:30 and the party begins. Lots of freelancers there. Go by pickup taxi from Chaweng- impossible to find your motorbike afterwards as it looks confusing similiar everwhere and hundreds of motorbikes are parked around the area.
Both parties are organized by the same crew (I think but someone might correct me) are good equalization to ordinary nightlife on Samui. From 22:00 to midnight you are offered a chairs and tables on the beach.
Do not go there if it rains, the street is not proper and will be flooded. Even the pickups have difficulties when leaving. Enjoy your trip. I might see you there.

Thanks for the advice 7eleven: After speaking to a couple of freinds they have convinced me to make it down for the Full Moon Party. I'm still unsure, but would really like to check it out, as it is meant to be out of this world. Is it that good or over hyped? Also how is the quality of music compared to the European music scene? I'm a huge fan of progressive and tech house. Cheers

I'm sure that the references are to the phases of the moon as seen in Thailand, which can be found on any Thai calendar. The terms are self explanatory. Duh!

Gee, I would have thought that you could see that I am a "Newbie" "Duh", is understandable, but given the previous posts referring to the "Black Moon", and the "Half Moon" parties..... I would think someone who has "been around" would understand that a "Newbie" asks questions because he doesn't know.... DUH
