After numerous visits to Phuket with even more stopovers in Bangkok the past 15 years, I'm ready to (s) explore new horizons and thought of the rural area of Petchabun.
Why Petchabun I hear you say ? Simple, it is my gorgeous Phuket-mate's hometown. She has been begging me to visit her town and next january, after another 3 weeks in Patong to celebrate my annual New Year's party, I'm ready to go with her to see what it's look like in the hills of Petchabun.
2 of my best friends will come along and I don't want them to be left alone empty handed.
I had conflicting information about the Petch. Some say it's dead after dark, another -including the gf of course- says it has a great discotheque which is open till dawn.
Anyone, who knows the place and can tell me whatever is true ? A recent field report would be cool.
Myself, I will check the place out in anyway and post the field report later on return for sure.

I've never been to the city of Petchabun, but have been to the province. I've never read anything good about the nightlife there. If yoe ever read stickman, pothole research did a report of his visit there, and it did not sound encouraging.
On the bright side, I enjoyed my time in there. I visited Si Thep which is south of Petchabun City. It is an ancient city that was real pleasant to visit, no tourists at all there. I stayed in Wichianburi, which is famous for their chicken, but I never found the stuff. All the people were very nice and over all if I was visiting a place and did not want nightlife, Petchabun would be high on my list.

A bus from Phuket to Phetchabun for 1100 kilometers. Sounds fun! 
Haven't been to Phetchabun but it is good enough sized that there will be nightlife, but it will be all Thai. If you found one of these places and walked in alone, you would certainly get some curious looks. You'd be OK though.
If your "GF" is taking you there, she'll have to tell her boyfriend to say he is her brother. She'll have this worked out long before you go. 
The two craziest BGs I've even met are from Phetchabun - a couple of f***ing nutcases! I'm sure it is a coincidence. 
We look forward to the FR.

CG, we're not going by bus ! After dozens of trips to Phuket I came to know that there are airplanes going up and down between Phuket and Bangkok. We're going by 5-hour bus between Bangkok and Petchabun however which is in fact shorter then flying to Pitsanulok considering check-in Bangkok + transfer, airport transfers in Pit (90 minutes drive) etc. Better to have that 5hr smooth (that's what I heard) ride through the country. A private van is not too bad with the company of a couple of friends
Second if she has to tell her boyfriend, I don't give a f...k. I have great times with her. But sound strange that's she wants me get introduced to her parents.
Third, she's not a BG and does'nt cost me a single penny.

mountain around there are splended & the roads really are quite smooth once out of the bkk/saraburi hell traffic & going high on 21 highway (potholes) lol
enjoy
p.s. I did not search or need any nightlife in the 'bun' as I always tend to bring my own lol. great foods as everywhere really
