Next week Mrs S and I will be driving my step daughter back to Bangkok. She lives in Nakhon Pathom province. Its a long drive from Chaiyaphum and Mrs S and I want to stay overnight in a hotel before driving back the next day.
The BKK map tells me Nakhon Pathom is a province of greater BKK. The Lonely Planet guide tells me Nakhon Pathom is a city 58km east of BKK (its also an old edition). Semantics maybe, but its clear to me we'll be a fair way from the main tourist areas of central BKK & Sukhumvit.
Can any of the older hands here help with recommendations for:
* a good hotel to stay;
* a place for a drink & and a decent bite to eat; and
* any nightlife such as beer bars, go-go bars, or sing-a-song bars.
It will be getting dark when we arrive and I do not want to drive into central BKK if I can avoid that.

When I was there I stayed at the Whale Inn Hotel. I am sure at one time it was the place to stay in town, but now its a little bit run down, but fine for one night. What I really like about it was that its a big hotel so there is a lot of tourist infrastructure that grew up around it. So anything as a tourist that you might need, its a very short walk away.
I did not notice any go-go bars when I was there but there are plenty of places to drink. There are a couple of massage places right there including a soapy. And if you are interested in the big cheddi its a short distance down the street.

Thanks Bob. in the end we stayed overnight in Korat on route down and on the way back. It was a long drive back in the dark but we wanted to get away.
On the way down we stayed at Hotel Sri Pattana and on the way back Hotel K Stars both in Korat. (Normally we stay at Sima Thani but we wanted to try out some different hotels in Korat).
Of the two Sri Pattana was better value. Both those hotels have seen better days. Room at SP was a bit better.
