Holy Saint, you have made some solid points here. Even though forking out $30, 40, 50 for a lady friend to keep you company for the night, once you have factored in various other costs, they start to add up, and she no longer looks like a bargin.
Some of the money these girls make is up to 10 times more than the average worker, and thats obviously debateable, but usually in the comfort of your air condition luxurious hotel, with a nice bath, and meals throw in. So guys who think they do it hard, think again. Funny how they sometimes refuse an offer and end up going home alone.
Anyway, each to his own in the end...

Very solid points indeed.
The schoolbook example of this over-valuing is of course the Japs and Koreans - who are f***ing it up all over Asia for the rest of us.
All in all, I find Indonesia still pretty pure when it comes to p4p. A total opposite of the harsh business in Bangkok.
As in the PI, a below 30 foreigner with long blond hair is still considered somewhat of an captivating oddity (except in Kuta of course - see my Bali thread), and some chit chat and dinner usually results in a night of passion.
Needless to say that my hunting grounds are usually more "normal" places like Vertigo, Embassy and Jalan Jalan.
Before you would never have to talk price before leaving. It was just a matter if they would like to come back with you.
Although I am fearful of things to come, the PI seems to be the last beacon of this joyful philosophy. (Allthough I never been to Vietnam and Cambodia.)

I appreciate your consideration of the issue. I think 300k is fair for the average good woman there. For some of the homier ones it can and probably is on the lower range of 200-250k long time. If they start balking another 50k would probably stop it and might be beneficial to you if you plan on seeing her again. But one thing I believe is that once they've been with you and you were cool, the money that you gave them earlier that they balked about was actually cool and they jump at the chance of going with you the next time. Got to be careful taking the same woman too many times. Just like in Thailand you become theirs and they can go with whoever because it's business. Weird thinking. I am actually considering making sure what they expect and I expect and for how much next time at places like My Bar. I rarely ever even talk price but reports of crazy rates being paid is putting a little fear in me. I hate arguing with the woman in the morning after a good night.
Anyway, all I wanted to say was try to keep it real on costs or we could loose this pretty nice mongering place. My cost estimate might be blown away by now if the perceived value has been changed by constant overpaying. I hope not. I hope to be there sometime after Ramadan. I wish it was a little more like Bangkok on entertainment venues besides just restaurants, bars, and discos but you can't have it all. There is something about the women here.

You know I've only been to Stadium a couple of times and didn't partake in any p4p. I know about the karaoke floor and where all the women are lined up outside that one bar with the live band with the mamasans. I understand the prices are pretty fixed there for the women and the room but forget. I have also been inside the main disco and it is amazing and very dark. I know in the entrance the mamasans have some women there and try to get you to go. I assume it's the same deal like it is on the other floor.
But what I don't know about is how it works out in the disco. I am pretty shy, but am curious. I know there are alot of just regular girls out there partying with E. I also know there are alot of women who work the discos and clubs already mentioned that go there. When I went to the disco, I went with a woman I knew from My Bar and her friends. We found a spot and just danced, so I did not partake. What's the deal there? Are most of the women there up for some groping fun or doing the actual deed? I could never tell who was with who. I guess it's no big deal in Jakarta, but it's not easy for me to approach any woman there.
Also, I've never been to Vertigo, Embassy, and Jalan Jalan. Are these those higher class bar discos that some of the upper class indonesian and chinese go to? What's the deal there? I guess I go to Blok M too much.
I miss the times of JJ's late night in it's hey day.

There are certainly a fair bit of FL’s around, but since the music is so loud and their English skills are practically nil, negotiating might be cumbersome. Mostly, I just do like you, I just have fun and enjoy the music and atmosphere.
BUT, being a young white guy in that place elevates you to rock star status – I have the feeling. Much to the dismay of the local male patrons.
Also, I've never been to Vertigo, Embassy, and Jalan Jalan. Are these those higher class bar discos that some of the upper class indonesian and chinese go to? What's the deal there? I guess I go to Blok M too much.
Then these places might be a shock. They are indeed classy clubs for the Indonesian upper-class. There must be working girls around, but I yet have to meet one. Again, you will most likely be the only white guy in the place. Since most of these people have degrees, English will get you further then in Blok M and Stadium, but a little bit of Bahasa goes a long way and makes you cute.
Although possible, a spontaneous wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am will be rare. These chicks drive bigger SUV’s and live in bigger houses then most expats I know in Jakarta. They will require some work, BUT will pick up the bill on occasion.
BTW – been to Tao Bar for dinner yet? Awesome place.

upeer class indo chicks are generally very happy to speak English it's certainly very 'fasionable' to do so, too much interest in Indonesia isn't neccesarily attractive for indo girls of any class (unless or course they speak no English), means you could be a scabby expat not a rich bule.
Bahasa is very rarely their first language anyway, so don't worry if you speak none, (but it is very easy to pick up the basics).
