AHHH ponyboy, you have brought but some VERY fond memories.
Saigon 2001, had a Viet g/f at the time, a solid 7 but minimal English ( made for unusual communication with my 300 words in Viet).
She took me to meet some of her relatives that lived in another part of Siagon ( district 5 ?? ) and I instantly fell in love with her cousin ( a solid 9) but she was involved with an American born Viet named Mark.
Mark and I hit it off straight away ( no not in THAT way), he loved a drink a good time and really knew his way around the place ( was staying 6 months).9 of us Aunties etc included went out for seafood dinner,, amazing experience, as we drive down toward the river guys from other shops are actually throwing themselves onto the bonnet of the taxi yelling for us to eat at their restaurant!!!! OH&S laws are obviously different to here in Aus  . Food was EXCELLENT especially the smoked and BBQ eel. ANyway during the dinner he asked what I was doing tomorrow,, no plans on my part, he said I come get you at your hotel at 11am.
Next day he shows at 11am, I jump on back of hios boike ( scarey the way they ride on the wrong side like the Americans) and 15 minutes later we are stopped in front of a "hot tok" shop ( hair-cut). In we go a FARK!!! met by a trio of 9's !!!!! This guy REALLY knows Saigon.
At this stage I thought it was a normal hair-cut joint but was more than happy.
WELL it was a hot tok 3 as per Ponyboy description,,, hair cut, head massage, neck shoulder massage, moustache trimmed, foot massage ( all this went on for over an hour) and then a BLOW JOB DOUBLE,, ahhhh yes baby. Excellent job and with 2 X 9's working me over I was completely drained in less than 10 minutes.
I asked Mark US$20 ok,, he said NO WAY don't spoil them US$10 is correct.
I quote in US$ because it is the preffered currency, in fact even if you calculate it back to Viet dong and give them that they are not as happy as getting real $US.
Later Mark asked if I like the hair-cut,, yes mate best hair-cut ever. He organised one of the nines to visit my hotel the following day. The hotel was NOT girl-friendly but having made friends with the concierge an exception was made ( no need for more report I think you get the idea).
ALL in ALL Vietnamese women are as good looking as Thai women perhaps more so, tend to have slightly larger breasts but often have crooked teeth ( if that worries you) and somewhat less "jaded".
Now how to get my Thai wife to agree on me having a return holiday to NAM?

I have to agree that VNese women are more attractive but like you say, crooked teeth can be a issue. Any idea where you were when you visited the special barber? It just blows me away (no pun intended) that these dumpy looking barber shops are packed with young honeys. I've been exploring some in the outer areas of the city as my VNese now is at least enough to get me into trouble. I recall once when after being serviced by two young things I was heading for the door but a bevy of more young cuties would have none of that. When I told them I had already been "massaged" twice, one of them grabbed my member and said she was sure I needed two more times. I asked her how she could be so sure I was up for it and she replied "Anh biet nguoi em gai Viet Nam kien nhan nhieu, phai khong?" "Don't you know VNese girls are very patient?" How could I say no? Damn-the sacrifices I make to maintain America's good-will image.
You could tell your wife that you have a meeting to discuss the possibility of investing in Viet Nam's barber shops. I'm sure she wouldn't suspect a thing.

Either way is was about 10 - 15 Kilometres from District 3, I always stayed at Liberty 4 district 3 about 1km away from the main Post office and not far from the big market.
Actually I think ihave several excuses to visit,, my Aquaculture farm in Thailand is progressing well and can easily be repeated in Vietnam ( can foreign companies own land in Viet ?).
Also e-bay is treating me well selling house-hold goods, so that is excuse 2. ( buying more product)
Also my Parents want to see Vietnam,, they saw all my pictures from my trips,,,,,,,, I wonder if I can get away with same excuse I used in Cambodia that the hotel I was booked into was FULL and I had to book them up the road . ( several roads away actually
I will need to brush up on my Viet, been learning Thai and not been to Nam for a several years.
AHHH one more thing,Ahn thik cafe sua nuuk dah kong?
I have to say Viet coffee is best I have EVER tasted.

Their skin is silky smooth, pussies on average smaller than Thai even, as is height...Ho chi min (saigion) is where action is.
But go to countryside and you can stay in Villages near coast, ride motor bikes etc..... (woman will offer services cheaply too)
Hanoi is a better relaxed place.........and dsicreet arrangements on offer at about a third of Thailands cost.
Expect to pay as little as $3-4 US dollars a night or $100 a month............BJs go for $75 a month thats girl daily everyday for a month!
Remember average annunal pay is about $350 dollars so woman really want to quietly make a deal.
Short times at about $7 US is standard at bars, but alot of discretion is required.
Food is fantastic!

I was lucky enough to spend 2-1/2 years in Nam before being posted to the USA for a year then here in Thighland. We stayed at Vung Tau, there are some great places to go if you ask the locals. Down near the beach they have resurected the "Grand Hotel" of Redgum fame. Between there and the Vung Tau-HCMC ferry is a collection of bars and massage parlours with some beautiful women. There are also the "motorbikeGirls" who tend to accost you when your staggering home drunk from the bars, but be warned, many an unsuspecting falang has been rolled instead of bonked by these ladies. If your real drunk its easier to knock you down and steal your cash than to work for it!! Also scams are everywhere, it is illegal to take girls back to your room in Nam, so the Coppers, doormen and bargirls have a scheme where the girls get you to take them home real cheap, the doorman tips off the coppers and they bust you in your room before you've even got a shot off. Your taken down the local lock-up and asked if you would prefer to pay a $500 spot fine or spend a few days in the tank. Been there, got caught and paid the fine, its no joke. Can't say I would want to go back there, the people are very hard and cynical compared to Thai's. But I spose after a few hundred years at war with all and sundry it would change attitudes!

I find it amusing that Australia is considered one of the most racist countries around. And yet most Asian countries are far more racist than we are. In Vietnam for example, our local liason officer told me to bring tee shirts with Kangaroo's and Koala's etc on them. He said I should wear them at site for several weeks and say a lot of G'days and let everyone know I am an "oc na loy" [Australian] It seems that the Frogs and the Yanks aren't well liked there, but Australians are?? I can't figure that out, we were in the war too! but it is true the locals demeanour changes immediately they know your are an Aussy.

Anh thich uong ca phe sua da nhieu lam! I completely agree with you that Vietnamese coffee is the best. Land laws are becoming more liberalized. Foreign investors can own land but I can't recall all the details. (a search online should provide you with more details though) Aquaculture is booming here, as well, and is leading to land erosion problems. I think selling items on eBay is great idea. "Good on ya" as they say...

I have been to Nam 5 or 6 times in the past 3 years. I can't say that I am a big fan of the place. I normally go to HCMC for a visa run, and visit a pretty young girl who I met there on my first trip when she was 19.
Here are my issues with Nam....
The per capita of hot girls is FAR FAR lower then BKK. More messed up teeth, lack of nice tits and ass, and lack of that happy go lucky Thai Smile.
Always dealing with someone trying to sell you something on the street. No escaping that in HCMC.
The Lack of decent night life scene. Midnite closing, and low class after hour places just does not cut it.
The fact that you can not bring a girl back to a Higher Class hotel in HCMC (I stay in a small one near New World that does not have a problem with it).
The constant eyeballing and looks one gets from people when a Farang is with a Normal Nam girl. Most people are just not use to seeing it.
The strange tourist that you find in Nam are a totally different animal then your typical Thai Farang. A lot of snooty EU expats, or your left wing back packer types.
I did some P4P on my first trip there. Not too impressed with it.
As far as beaches I have been to Vung Tao, Phu Quoc Island, and DaNang (China Beach), Phan Tiet.
Phu Quoc is being billed as an up and coming resort island, but I was not too impressed with it. Very quiet at night, and the water was not very clean.
DaNang and China Beach are really good. Not a lot of tourists, and the water and beach are really clean. Stayed at a very expensive Five Star restort there called the Furama. Definately reccomended. Actually flew on a B777 from SGN to Danang. Check out marble Mountain. Hoi An is nothing special. They sell the same shit there that you can buy in SGN.
Vung Tao is not a very clean beach, but ok for a quick getaway from SGN.
Phan Tiet was very nice. Lots of nice new resorts there. The beach was nice and clean. The Taxi ride to get there was the only negative.
Like I told my Nam girl when she came to BKK. BKK is what Saigon could be today if it were not for the Communists.
