Gents,
Does anyone have any info. about the Shangri-La hotel being girl-friendly, or the in-house scene?
I have reservations there, but if it's going to be restricitve then I would like to change to some other old favorite.
P.S. I can't seem to log on to WSG for what seems like months ("server too busy"), so can't do a search.

It is GF - quite a long "walk of Shame" though!!
Not aware of the in-house scene, but as they do not have any sort of nightclub, it must be very limited.

Defintiely GF. A friend was there a month back and had absolutely no problems.
Dont know if they have any pub scenes but there is a Sheesha joint up the higher floors where I know for a fact a lot of the working girls go to unwind. Try there and you might get lucky.

Trick to searching THIS forum is to click on the "printable version" link (to the right of the "multiple pages for this topic" block). This will download a copy of the thread to your local machine, then you can use your browser's search function. Now, whether you'll find anything is another question...
It does seem the bandwidth of the other forum is much more limited these days.

Sheesha (hooka water pipe) joints are usually outfitted with comfortable sofas or cushions and you are served coffee / tea along with your choice of aromatic tobacco. A fav hangout place for many in DXB.
At Rockafellas (Regal Plaza) if you look to the bar on the right hand side as you enter, you will see a spiral staircase that leads to an upstairs "sheesha joint." I know of a small cloud (6) of CIS ladies who go up there every single night around nine to socialize and prepare the assault on the bar around 10:30 or 11. Not a bad tactic really, by then the men have arrived and they are seen as "fresh arrivals" and more likely to get pulled than the girl who has been standing around for two hours (and thus found wanting by punters.)

The other day I met with Travel Buddy, a member of the other forum, at the York and while having drinks and swapping stories we were approached by quite a few Chinese and a couple of CIS ladies.
TB asked me if I knew what the ladies meant when they asked the various questions. I confessed that beyond what they said I never looked too deeply into what they meant.
He pointed out, for instance that when they ask us how long have we been in Dubai they are not trying to be friendly. What they want to know is whether we are easy prey or seasoned veterans of the Dubai arena.
Similarly other questions are asked with hidden motives.
Like:
"where you from? " (are you from a country where there is no famine? Can you actually afford me? )
our reply :India/Pakistan/Srilanka
Their response : I like India/Pakistan/Srilanka because they have good heart.
Wonder what that means. The net result in this case would be that they ask for double their normal rate having conned us into thinking that they love our country men.
Our reply: America/London/Germany/Italy
Their grin widens. ( ah they think. big wallet. Can charge extra).. Can you buy me Red Bull. ?
This is a loaded question. If we buy them the Red Bull she knows we are easy mark. The rate goes up another notch. If we dont buy them the drink we are not so easy. That means they will back peddle and try to con you once you reach their place or your hotel room. Like turning a L/T into an S/T on some pretext.
If they think we are cheap charlies they will continue to talk with us and then slowly try to promote their friend who has just arrived from the country. "Very nice lady. She come here only 2 days before."
What they mean by that is "you cant afford my rate. Take this country bumpkin at the rate you are offering me. I will get a kickback from her and will continue to look for some other chump who will pay more."
If you ask them any questions the answers are designed to enhance their value in your eyes.
Where are you from? Moscow. ( she is probably from Uzbeckis tan or one of their other tans) But Moscow is well known so the rate can go up. She says :Taiwan/Mongolia/Korea : Well I am a rare commodity (she implies) so my rate is higher.
Every word uttered, every question thrown at you is designed to enhance her chances of getting a better deal.
I am sure most of you have also faced these interviews when ever you went to the pubs and have formed an opinion. What is your take on this topic mates?

My personal experience with these interviews are a bit different, the only question they ask me is where are you from ?, but I guess my answer will also answer so many un asked questions, my strategy is like this, I asked how much they want, if the rate is reasonable, I continue with the rest of whats on the plate for me in terms of services. If the rate is un reasonable, I simply buzz off or ask them to buzz off and will not even negotiate 1 derham down !! why ?, because that tells me what kind of a person she is ( gready ).
Supply is still more than the demand I beleive, therefore, they either go our way or they should hit the highway.

JSF: Agree with your take wholeheartedly. I don't think it's being cruel, or hard hearted. It's just acknowledging their business practices. And it makes sense for them for just the reasons you state. I've always maintained:  "how long you stay dubai?" is really "how familiar are you with the scene, the fees, and the exchange rates?"
"where you from?" is really "how much can you afford?", and "what is the risk factor in going with you?" (women in your country treated as equals or chattel? Burned, acid thrown, or other abuse common? Ripped off with services rendered then booted out?, etc., etc.)
"where you stay?" is really "how much are you forking out for a hotel?", and if it's nice, rate goes up. Also, "how much time am I going to waste getting there, and how much should I ask for a taxi home/back to the office?"
"you buy me drink?" is really "how much can I hit you up for extra charges", and, besides, if I'm wasting time talking with you I might as well be compensated for it.
"You buy me Red Bull?" is really "I'm tired from last night, and before I start some serious marketing with some serious punters, I need to wake up".
"You buy me whisky?" is really "Better get blotto before I go with you as that's the only way I'll ever stand your company".
"You take my friend, new girl" is really "She doesn't speak the language, doesn't have a hope in hell of finding a customer on her own, so I'd better help her score before I do. Besides, better she go with your sorry ass than me; those are the dues she needs to pay."
"Your family with you?" is really "Your wife might show up and cause a scene?"
"When you go country?" is really "How much chance is there for repeat business?"

That is true, but some of the nicest ones have no trouble filling their time with clients, and can charge accordingly.
Depending on my mood, either an outrageous quote sends me in the other direction, or I will smile and say "I do live in Dubai". From their point of view, never hurts to ask, and I've learned that with always blowing them off, you can lose some very nice experiences.
