To make a 22-26 hour airport wait and travel worth the while a guy needs to take two weeks to do LOS. That's 10 vacation days, that has $$ value depending on what you make.
Calculate an average 125-175 per day spending....that varies among board members. Like Big D who probably exist on $13.75 per day including girl and somebody like Colorado Guy who hangs at Soi 33 and burns thru $500 before the end of Happy Hour....both of these guys whom I'm envious of their travels to LOS.
Calculate an average airfare of $900-1200 and the cost of a trip for myself works out to $6,500.
This year I opted for a 4 day 3 nighter to Cancun for an all inclusive $1,299 including airfare. I save Vacation hours and it leaves me $$$ for the Korean girls in Dallas.
I don't want to hijack this thread but LOS is a changing scene from what it use to be. I'm glad I got there in the late 90's before Toxin tried to mould the country into little Singapore.

Flight: $680
Travel time: 22hrs
per diem: $125
Total: $1,930.
Essentially, $2,000 (US) gives me a nice 10-12 days in LOS.
This breaks down to 6-8 girls for me (average, LT).
That's an average of $285 per girl, for a roughly 8-10 hour period.
This means that each girl 'costs' me roughly $32.
$200 an hour doesn't sound that good anymore.
Now, if you're talking economical, go to Mexico.
Travel by car: $40 in gas (if that)
Travel time: 2 hrs
Girl: $60 (BG, not freelancer)
S/T hotel: $10
Drinks/Food: $40
Total: $150 - $210
Not sure where you are shopping, but you're spending too much.

I'm talking about traveling to LOS for vacation, 22 hours travel going and coming and burning 80 hours vacation time.
You have to put a price on your vacation hours, if you make $40 per hour each vaction day has a value of $320, burning a day of vaction to travel in airports is costing you $320 each way. Now the vacation days you spend banging your TBG, that's $320 worth of vaction days well spent....but it all factors into the cost of the entire trip along with what you pay the girl, hotel, etc.....
Maybe my sex drive is winding down but after banging TBG's for three straight days I take a break. For me 5 days in LOS is enough but 44 hours total travel and major jet lag for a short stay is rough and hard to justify.
$680 for the flight is a bargain and i'm envious of the guy who gets that flight. What airline can you book that airfare ?

I can't even start to calculate that way, as each day would then cost me over $1000 dollars. I understand what you are saying, but I don't count that - if I did, a 10 day vacation would run me around $22,000. Not realistic.

China Airlines - I have a decent travel agent. On the average I used to pay around $560-$620. $680 was the highest for China. The most I ever paid was Cathay, at $780.

If I made that kind of cash I would'nt be messing around with cheap $600 coach seats on ragged out 747's....i'd be flying 1st class on one of the best airlines.

Sorry, I'm not buying the "value" on your vacation days argument. First, I work M-F and have Saturday and Sunday off. So a two week trip cost me 10 vacation days of which I get 38 per year. I leave on Saturday (an off day) so most likely I'd be moping around the house, doing yardwork or reading this forum and trying to understand your logic. Unless you work 7 days a week your $320 wasted on a travel day is bull. All 10 days that are actual vacation days are spent in LOS having a good time and thats why I work. To enjoy my vacation. Not sitting around wondering to the second how much the cost and value of my vacation might be. You can further calculate some reward for taking that 22+ hour flight because you realize frequent flier miles every time you go. In my case, 18792 miles which will soon be 38k when I hit gold medallion on Delta after my third trip this year. You get a 100% mileage bonus after 50k miles. So, roughly 60k miles which is a free ticket to LOS. Thats easily a $1000 deduction. Don't think to much....if LOS is to much of a headache don't go. Fly down to Costa Rica for a weekend or as Daffy suggests drive to Mexico. More Thai ladies for the rest of us. Life is to short for me to convince you why you should go to LOS, thats up to you. I have a plane to catch.

Well, a somewhat interesting thread.
In periods I work a lot. Last month (the month with the most public hollidays in my country, ie. not work) I worked like for two normal months.
I got 21 days vacation in a year. I can get more - unpaid vacation - if possible. This year I will do that. Heck, I do need some time to recharge my batteries. And then - I will look for the best charger.... Thailand. Money is no concern in that way as Thailand is very (very) cheap compared to Europe. The travel distance is long, but liveable. Thai Airways serve wine, so I should be OK...
Follow my Thailand pattern and you will see where I'm coming from (or where I'm heading) :
2003: Phuket 2 weeks
2004: Bangkok 3 weeks
2005: Thailand 4 weeks (soon to come, counting down)

The flaw I see in this logic stems from the fact that, for most of us anyway, vacation days are paid. Therefore, if I choose to sit on my sofa staring at the tv, or on a flight to bkk, I get "paid" the same (while on vacation). Only difference is, the NEXT morning, there is quite a difference to the possibilities open to me, depending on my choice above.
Or what's the old cliche: to know the price of everything, and the value of nothing. I know the value of sanuk, and, while I arrive back home exhausted, my mental state is so much better.

What started the current dialouge was my statement that paying the Korean girls in Dallas $200 for a 1 hour session was not that pricey if you total the overall cost of a trip to LOS.
I include the cost of my vacation time in a trip to LOS, I can sell back my vacation time at the company I work at.
Yes...I know people who think nothing about taking a week of vaction to sit on the couch and watch TV. Whatever it takes to recharge your battery. If f***ing Asian women is what it takes to recharge I prefer to pay the $200 for the hour to get my rocks off versus the travel time and jet lag associated with a LOS trip.
The other part I mentioned was the changing scene in LOS......I posted FR's after my Dec 2004 and Sept 2004 trips. Dealing with the 1am closing times, being stopped by the BIB and asked for passports...which we did not have on us.... dealing with the attitudes of the girls.....it's beginning to wear on me. Yep...$200 a week for a good f*** from a cute Asian chick at one of the Dallas Massage Parlors has temporarily quelled my desires to troll Sukhumvit or Beach Road for a taste of Thai.
