I am a regular visitor to Vietnam (HCMC, Hanoi & Da Nang) and whilst the Girls are Beautiful & can be fun the Hotels are a pain!
HCMC has a famous (or maybe infamous) street of Number Bars, which have many good looking (plus some not so good) Girls, ST rates are about $40-50 US, the Bar Fine is based on Ladies Drinks, usually 4-6 at $4-8US per Drink. It can often be negotiated! The Girls can take you to a "safe" ST Hotel which will cost you another $15-25 US for about 3 hours!
LT is much more difficult & none of the 4 or 5 Star Hotels will let you in to the Hotel with a Working Girl after 11pm & if you get one in earlier will make sure you have them out by 11pm! There are very few GF Hotels & their policies change rapidly depending on pressure from the local police.
That said, it can be a great place, Freelancers hangout in most of the High End Bars, the famous Barber Shop Blow-jobs are legendary as is the "local" Coffee Shop Girls BUT you need help from a Vietnamese speaker before even thinking of going to any of these!

Those dam hotels are still a problem, that is shitty as the ST hotels are a pain 
Maybe avoid the high end hotels and find a decent low to mid range hotel. However be very blunt and direct on their policy regarding having a girl stay over LT if that is what you want.
Dam reading this report again, wish I was back in Vietnam

It's not entirely true that the better hotels won't let the gal in. I once took the option of paying for a room for a"work colleague"  Yep had to pay for 2 rooms that just happened to be beside each other.
Not the cheapest option but is an alternative.

Yes there are Girl Friendly small Hotels but as I stated originally, there policies do change depending on the local Police & the Time of Year. Two rooms in a 5 Star Hotel is probably more than a return airticket to Bangkok, do the math!

short time hotel near the numbers bars Oz mentioned named Ly Ly (or Vy Vy-can't remember) at 163 Nguyen Thai Binh. About 200,000VND or 250,000VND if you bring more than one friend... not that I'd know anything about that.

Oz, I have been coming to HCMC for 6 months now and paying the same rates (I got flamed on another BTF thread for quoting these by someone who was obviously out of touch). Everything in Vietnam is getting more expensive as the economy grows at a spectacular 7-8% every year. However, it is still cheap compared with LOS.
The street with the number bars is Hai Ba Trung and new bars are opening up all the time. My favourite is Thien Luc, which is very laid back ( and waives the barfine if they know you - ie. buy Mama a few lady drinks).
There are more freelancers every month. I am writing this sitting on my hotel terrace on Dong Koi Street (bit like the Landmark on Sukhumvit) and have had two "come ons" in the last half hour - from not unattractive propositions.
On the question of LT, I think it is the 'mini hotels' not the girls that is the problem. Anyway, I move into an apartment next month, so I will be able to carry out a more detailed survey and will report back when I have a truly representative sample!

That's the way I went on my several tours of the city.
High class hotels will definitely block imports.
But the mid-range to low hotels and guest houses are not circumstances in which to assume you'll be O.K.
The intertwined grip that the police and the extensive tentacles of the mafia have on all of these places would more than probably give someone the opportunity to earn a few dollars to inform on you.
As for the necessity of taking along a national to a massage parlour or one of those delightful blow-job barbers to get the full benefits, no need to worry. Just turn up and indicate that you want the lot. You'll get it.
One time when I was in Ho Chi Minh City, I had to return to a tailor's shop to collect two suits that I had ordered. When I got there, surprisingly, they were not yet ready and so I was asked to wait for a little while and as compensation for being so inconvenienced, was invited to have a blow-job in the back by one of the junior female staff.
Don't you just love it when people are so considerate ?

Hope they don't harden as the tourist industry explodes.
