It was printed in the Sunday telegaph which is a UK broadsheet (quality newspaper).
If I had been in Germany and had had to live on unemployment benefit for a year and it had happened to me I would be well pleased and be straight out to the press to sell my story for a mint!

You quoted me above as saying that the article could be a fake, and that if the reputable news outlets that reported it (including CNN and Sunday Telegraph) did not check it out, then "that just goes to show that you can’t trust any of their news stories."
Then you chastise me for believing everything that I read in the media.
I would definitely say you have a reading comprehension problem. No doubt about it.

No, I posted an article that was published in several reputable news media outlets. Many members have done the same thing.
My original post does not express any views on the authenticity of article. Most of my subsequent posts dealt with correcting errors some posters had made (which some admitted to) in interpreting what the article actually said.
Some have speculated that the article merely discusses hypothetical situations that might occur based on some new German laws that took effect this year. But that cannot be the case since the article is not written as a ‘hypothetical” and it discusses specific names and detailed situations and claims that those events actually occurred. So either the article is real, or it is fake.

Do a google search on the author and selected qutoes from the article and you'll see very clearly that no credible media outlet has published this story.
The story fails to pass the common sense test. Germany is very liberal when it comes to prostitution but it is also liberal when it comes to workers rights, perhaps moreso than anywhere else in the world.
Prostitution has also been legal in Germany for over a decade, and not the 2 years mentioned in the article.
I am glad Mr. Alan raised the article for discussion purposes, but I do not believe it is fact. Neither should you.

the questioned law is effective since the beginning of this year, 2005. the quoted story was published on dec 18th 2004!!!
how can anybody be affected by a law which isn't in place yet???
this alone should show you that it is a total fake! the quoted article in german only mentions a hypothetical possibility that somebody formerly employed as a waitress might be forced to accept a job ''' as a waitress''' in a red light establishment. nothing about forced prostitution, just a possibility that she might have to work the same job as she was doing before in a red light environment!!! that's all and that is even being hypothetical!!!
bush jun. can be very proud of his media machine and all those strong believers in all of their half true, half lies stories!
