In Vientiene, Laos at the Mekong Hotel.
1 1/2 hour drive to the border, quick exit of Thailand.
Slow entry into Laos, 30 minutes waiting in line to get my passport back.
35.00 for U.S. Passport Holders.
1.00 surcharge for farang, assumingly to fix roads.
300 baht taxi to Thai Embassy w/ almost a 2 hour wait
for the processing of my 60 day visa. Then ride to
Mekong Hotel.
30 / 40 / 50.00 dollar rooms available. Took the 40.00 room, both the 30/40 rooms have 2 beds while the 50.00 room has a large bed.
Nice room, only a show however.
Will check-out the nightlife tonight, as from what I've read there is no action during daylight hours.
Oh, my cell phone doesn't work. It did until 15 minutes after departing the border.
Will have to work on getting a Lao SIM card.

Correction, my Thai cell phone does work in Vientiene.
When I'm in a tall building (hotel) and next to the window facing Thailand.
Already bought a Lao SIM card, 13 dollars for a SIM card and 75,000 Kip of air time. Available at the Business Center at the Mekong Hotel.
Heading out today to get my passport and head back to Thailand.

Few additional tidbits!
20 baht for the bus ride from Thailand to Laos, only 15 baht or 4000 Kip for the return.
Xain Lane Snack/Bar. Visited there about 9 PM, more guys than gals. Limited selection, average ladies.
They have a stage with 3-4 different singers, a dance floor. Can't see recommending the place.
Anou Cabaret. Arrived there around 10 PM, there was a ballroom dance competition going on and place was packed. Saw a number of ladies standing in the back watching the activities, there were a number of lookers.
Worth a visit.
Mekong Club. 11 PM, band and dance floor. Definitely more of a disco atmosphere. Maybe 20 guys (mostly Chinese) and 30 ladies, above average selection. Of course all the real lookers were already sitting with customers. Closed at 12, so I went home alone.
Next morning embassy visit at 1 PM, long line for visa pick-up..........but line moved fairly fast. Beware of those trying to cut the line. Present reciept and get your passport with a 60 day visa for 1000 baht.
Mekong Hotel, will confirm it's guest friendly as when the Mekong Club closed there were a number of ladies being escorted to rooms.

mosquito2002..... which part of Vientiane town is the Mekong Hotel? I guess it's on the river? Is it that very tall hotel? Tallest building in Vientiane?

Mekong Hotel is located 2 streets down from the river, it's across from a VIP Condo set-up!!
Wouldn't say it's the tallest building in town, and it doesn't really stand-out.
Making another Visa run next week, anyone with updated info on Vientiene?
