the questioned law is effective since the beginning of this year, 2005. the quoted story was published on dec 18th 2004!!!
how can anybody be affected by a law which isn't in place yet???
this alone should show you that it is a total fake!
The article was originally published on January 30, 2005 in the Sunday Telegraph. You can see the date under the byline of the article, or look at the date embedded in the html link.

The http://www.telegraph.co.uk web site seems to always show the current date at the top of the webpage, even when viewing an archived article that was published previously. I am not sure how you came up with dec 18th 2004.

If I lived in the UK, I would call the News editor of the Sunday Telegraph and ask him about the accuracy of story. The list the phone numbers, but not email addresses for the editorial/news staff.

I thnk what he is saying is the the article that Clare Chapman used as her source of information was written on the 18th of December.

What 0815 says is the actual situation makes a lot of sense on how this could have got out of propirtion - that people can lose unemployment benefits if they refuse employment in Brothels in non sexual roles.

Mr Alan I don't have the irrefutable proof you're looking for and I'm assuming 0815 is fluent in German, but using a simple bit of common sense suggests that this is the actual situation; and that is why there has been very little reaction from the German press.

I mean come on, if this did happen to any girl who had been on benfits for a year she would have sold the story all around the world and would probably now be lying on a beach in Koh Samui.

Manowar - they bite the sausage in 2 then swallow just with sauerkraut though. Thats why germans allways look so serious.

The problem is that saying Clare Chapman used the German article as the sole source for her story (without her own reporting of specific events that happened) has not been proven. In fact, it is sheer speculation.. Neither the author (Clare Chapman) nor The Sunday Telegraph were ever asked about the article by the web blog.

If the specific names and situations Clare Chapman quotes in her article (posted at top of this thread) are not real, then the article is a fraud. If the specific names and quotes are real, then I would think the article is accurate. Her article is not about hypothetical situations, and not necessarily about what has happened to every single person in Germany who has unemployed for more than 1 year.

In fact, the web blog uses the German article as its main authoritative source for the conclusion that the Clare Chapman article is false, but then admits that the German article did say that "it happened in some isolated cases." Therefore, it is possible that Clare Chapman found one of those cases and reported it.

The date of the German article is only relevant if Clare Chapman used it as her only source of information and made-up (faked) the rest of the story of the actual quotes and names that was published on January 30, 2005. That is what the web blog says, but offers no evidence whatsoever, and did not contact Clare Chapman or The Sunday Telegraph for comment about such an accusation.

If Clare Chapman reported on actual events that occurred after January 1, 2005, then the date of the German article is irrelevant.
