Okay Griffin, that sounds good...
1. , how does one go about finding hotels around Block M?
2. Is "block M" monger speak, or if I mention that area to an online hotel service are they going to know what I'm talking about?
3. Are there massage places around block M?
4. Do you have any websites for hotels in the area?
5. What exactly is block M? Is it just the pussy area (like NEP-bkk) or is it a larger area that also contains shopping malls, stores and restaurants?

blok m is a part of jakarta with some shopping complexes like pasar raya and some bars. but again i would say most of the nightlife in a more western style would be more downtown 1 mile around plaza indonesia (grand hyatt hotel) or china town.
blok m should be know by the agents. but the places i usually hang out in the night are more around plaza indonesi(hard rock cafe, jj, tanamur, bats, retro) or chinatown like stadium and other off places. blok m used to be and still is popular with some expats who do not want to engage inthe downtown nightlife and are also not prepared spending as much money as downtown! (not really a bid issue as indonesia is damn cheap anyway, much more cheap then LOS, execpt alcohol (muslim country)).

Okay thanks much Griffin and you are helping me narrow things down...
So if I pick a hotel around plaza indonesia area, like in the Grand Hyatt vicinity that you mentioned, will I be walking distance to a massage place, decent pick up joints for working girls, and shopping areas to scout freebies?
That last part about scouting for regular girls is top priority as far as I'm concerned. Hookers are easy to find, but if I can enjoy myself there and bed some nice regulars who just want to try a boy from the states, I'm up for that!
I know, I know that cabs are dirt cheap, but I really like the idea of walking out of my hotel and strolling to some action and not having to get a cab everytime.
Is this downtown Indonesia plaza area in central, west, south Jakarta so I can tell hotel folks I talk to?

jakarta is a damn big city. the way from plaza indonesia to chinatown is about 15 min in a cab!
jakarta is not a walking city at all! so it does not matter where you are located as everybody is going to take a taxi anyway. mind you there aren't any sidewalks really so you have to drive.
grand hyatt hotel does have the advantage that you can walk from the hotel directly into the plaza indonesia mall. in there you will find a lot of approachable girls and normal working girls in the daytime! (plaza indonesia is the same like the emporium in bangkok). outside grand hyatt there are also some pimps hnging around offering you girls to your room, they do mainly have students and i have taken their service several times, all the girls i got to see were extremly nice ones, so do not be distarcted by the fact that are hanging around the hotel! (all hotels in jakarta are girl friendly anyway)
again indonesia is not thailand so do not expect any thai style massage parlors. you will get mp places but they are normally all straight massages!
for naughty stuff you will have to go to chinatown or the already befor ementioned places where you can pick up girls. indonesia is nearly 100% freelance scene so no gogo's, mp's or any such!
