Living here for almost 8 years now. First came here in 1972 in the military on the border with Laos. Not fun, and couldn't travel to Bangkok.

There still might ocassionally be a girl truthfull in just wanting marriage with a foreigner, but for the most part they are all just after the money, and are hard core hollywood grade actresses in getting it. Not bollywood wannabe actresses, but hard core hollywood grade A list actresses, that make you fight to get your wallet out as fast as you can, and wide open.
You mention your first trip here and your "lucky Buddha" tuk tuk ride. In that ride you got very lucky, and didn't realize it. Most tuk tuk drivers in that scam will simply drive off when you do not buy anything, leaving you to find your own way back. That is the norm, so it was your lucky day....lolol.

I think another way to put it is how many Bro's are thinking of moving to live in Bangkok or Pattaya? That is a really heavy decision, how long do you think you would stay, having been there on various trips. Can you really wrap your mind around that? My trips have always been during high season and the weather shouldn't be much different from PI.

So, ok, I'll bite, DG, how many Thai wives did you have? And what happened?
Koolbreeze, interesting story.
And what you say about the getting to invovled with money stuff makes perfect sense. I can see things starting small and then getting out of control. But what about the guys who only spend like a month there, meeting someone quite fast on arrival and then start sending the girl money from back home almost immediately?
I believe there are lots of marriages that work out just fine with WGs. As I believe some of them as you say are just doing this job to meet foreingers. I can totally see that. And sure understand some about Thai culture I get it.
If the tuk tuk driver on my first trip had left us there, it would have been about a 30-45 minute walk back to our hotel as we pretty much knew the general direction we needed to go, and we would have hopped in a cab eventually on a major street that was just nearby. But yeah, you are right.
Kulolo, I am sure alot of guys would probably want to live there at least short term, but I can see it becoming VERY addictive and costly for fun. haha.
As I am already living abroad, and have done so for nearly half my life the move there would not be all that difficult if I were single. But I am not sure what work I would do because of language and skills there are different. But what I am not sure is how long I could tolerate the difference in cultures again and I already find it frustating when asking questions in Thailand as they tend to only answer the first question you ask even if you write several or speak several questions. hahaha. This is just a small thing I know, but it can get annoying. I would not mind spending like 3-6 months a year there if it were possible.

If you can get the money part out of the way, then it's really easy to move to LOS, without worrying about what you will do for work (which can be really tiresome ), etc.
I'd be shuttling between BKK and Pattaya, just to get some change of scenery. When I was in BKK, believe it or not, I hardly ate any Thai food, my meals were mainly Lebanese or Russian. This works for me, since I like hanging out with the CIS girls. 
Yes, you can stay for 3-6 months first, just to try things out. I remembered, telling myself, that I would try it out for 5 years, when I first got there. I ended up staying for 14+ years.

 Bangkok is where the money is at, if you find good paying corporate work. Although getting expensive to live within the inner ring areas.
Plenty of LT nice working ladies and ST freelancers there. But still wouldn't settle there, too damm much traffic like LA.
There are many lower living cost smaller cities in Thailand where one can afford to retire early. Take your pick mountains, beach or farming plains. You can also live close to Pattaya and Bangkok in Chonburi area or over in Hua Hin but have access to Samui or Phuket, can go to Chang Mi where rents are low and bordering countries are.
The tourist trap cities are getting expensive to find LT housing and then going out many times per week ! Eat up a pensioners money easily ! Many super vixens work in Pattaya and extort the living shit out of every pensioner bf they have. Jomtien has many broke assed retired guys living off the monthly there in small studios.
Plenty of women to pick from ST and LT in Thailand. Just don't get involved with the pussy mafia they will extort you right out of your pension earnings and leave you penniless on the street. Find ones that will take care of you and like being around you. Find ones with good family relations if you go LT. Don't fall for the gold shop dowry please marry me scam after ST less than a year. Don't fall for the drunk drug taking types, run away from the bar for sure. Overall its the everyday bar life that will kill you off. Pussy mafia is what it is "sex for your money and not my love scam" So FFF there !
Plenty of good Thai ladies to be found away from the tourist trap cities. Family relations that counts if you go really long time or marry them. Good legit working ladies, will take care of good man that helps them with baan, family, car, etc... find a rich nymphomaniac that will pay you for your husband stud services !
Relax take it day by day or night by night in preference ! Thailand is a free country for now so enjoy it while we can ! Butterfly on, if one gives you problems shrug it off and go to the next !
In Thailand we all lose a little baht to the local ladies we like, but its nothing compared to the bigger bucks given to the western woman in legal extortion that will rob you of your life's savings, house, kids, cars etc... Thailand you can spend little and be on budget with much fun play.
