The Grand Plaza Parkroyal Hotel, formerly the Equitorial Hotel and formerly the Sofitel Plaza (it doesn't pay to piss off the government), has a nightclub which is loaded with good looking freelancers every night of the week.

What a coincidence, I actually ran across an ad for an EFL (english as foreign language) teaching position in Myanmar a couple of days ago, in Rangoon, I think it was. That was quite a surprise to me.

Burma is great to travel but terrible for night life. Other than the hotel used to call Equitorial Hotel, you can go to the nightclubs in Chinatown.
I personally would suggest that you do you night activities in Thailand and just travel and have fun in Burma. You will have a much better time in Burma without thinking about what would happen at night time (you might get cheated, ripped off and ...???).
If you have time, go to Bagin and stay at Bagin Hotel, a nice place for relaxing.

Not an expert on Myanmar (far from it) but did put my toe in the water across the river from Maesod. Am still haunted by the photo we took of an elegant Burmese lady holding the baby of her younger sister, while she and her sister quietly posed with resigned dignity. This lady had a B.S. in Zoology, and was stuck in this shithole border town in Burma. What a waste of an intellect. Par for the course.
My partner in crime is spending the better part of this month in Burma, maybe I'll post a few of his experiences when he returns. My own personal opinion -- a few well placed bullets to the heads of Heads of State there would do wonders for the region.

Grand Plaza is pricey - girls ask $50 accept $35, but same girls would accept $15 in a different club.
Try down shwedogan pagoda road, or there are a few places away from downtown.....
Be nice to them, they are v. poor. They speak v. little english, & don't usually drink.

can be dangerous, We crossed at the city of GOLDEN TRIANGLE. at the thai burma border, easy in takes agers getting back. THE markets are good, but some very shady people wanting to kidnapp your daughter, and rob you. One woman with amazing sad eyes still haunt me. Thais are rich compared to these PEOPLE. THE ACCOMADATION is cheap, careful about the hotels security. Burma casino, has some freelancers if your brave at 2000. on the street in bars its about 350 baht to 1000. but I didnt risk it, and frankly got alittle unnerved and left back into los.

nightlife? in burma? yes.
If you've not had a good time there, you were in the wrong places.
Try Emperor, Palace (small) JJ's slightly out of town is the place to go to at 11pm when the others are closing down.
If you quite like hanging round a busy club, lots of smiles from the locals, girls on tap.........beer at $2 maximum.......is this nightlife?
Different to bkk, sure.
