I will be in BKK for the first time in Mid November, I would like to visit a casino, and I know the nearest ones are in Cambodia, does anyone know of an organised trip that I could book, and if there is one, what are the costs?

I will also be in Phuket for a week, so I hope I will be able to share a few drinks with you guys in one place or the other?

chilli
khaosan rd has loads af cambo tours though most not geared to gamblers I think...
but basically any decent travel agent you come across should be able to sort you out.

or just go on your own. it's a single bus ride to the border from the northern bus station at chatuchak (end of BTS line). the destination is aranyaphatet or something like that. then the border (poipet) is just a B50 tuk tuk ride from there
visa can be obtained at border for $20 or B1000!
happy gambling

How very interesting because I went to the casinos at the Cambodian border on the bus just yesterday.
I caught my bus at the bottom left-hand corner of Lumphini Park (where the statue of the 6th King is).
The bus left at 5.30am and the round trip cost a mere 200 baht. It is a double-decker, air-conditioned, extremely comfortable bus, too.
It arrived at Aranyaphatet at 9.00am sharp and I was all set to try and cross the border to simply renew my Thai visa and I was approached by a young male guide (who turned out to be a godsend) who helped me with everything - forms to fill in, directions where to go, etc.
The first stop (still on the Thai side) was simply in a large room where I stood in line with all the other Thai 'punters' and merely had my passport looked at. Then it was over to the other side of the road where I had to pay 1500 baht to get a Cambodian visa (I supplied a photo - it costs more for no photo, apparently). Again, all the paperwork was filled in for me.
Then it was a walk over the 'border' to an office full of Cambodian guys who looked like policemen to have my passport 'stamped' - this cost another 300 baht.
After that I was free to go to the casino for something to eat (the all-you-can eat buffet cost 150 baht per person so I naturally shouted my guide a feed. He ate like he hadn't eaten for months).
Then my guide took me further into Poipet for a massage (that killed an hour), which also included a nice root for an extra 300 baht.
Anyway, the bus left for Bangkok at 5.00pm sharp and I was dropped off along Rama IV just before Lumphini Park at 8.30pm.
All-in-all an enjoyable way to renew my visa. I am sure I was ripped off several times but it's still a pretty cheap way of doing it.
By the way, the Thai gamblers were all issued with badges to wear, presumably to signify that they were in Cambodia to gamble and therefore didn't have to go through the same rigmarole as I did.

There is also a chance to see SIHANOUKVILLE since this coastal province has few casinos and all of them ROCK....quite a few Chinese and Malaysian guys in there....diving the nearby coral reefs could be a side activity in between....

Wide Spectrum
I don't know how any reasonable human being with a minimum of social responsibility can go gambling in such a miserable place like Poi Pet. Have been there several times on a visa run (organised trip from Sukhumvit Plaza, 2'200 Baht including all visa fees, guide, border fees, lunch in a casino).
Poi Pet is easily one of the most miserable places on earth with beggars and armies of landmine victims nearly dying on the streets and hundreds of children in rags being happy if you give them just 1 Baht. And in the middle of this absolute misery and poverty you see these monstrous posh gambling palaces. Inside people are throwing their money out big time....and when I see a rich arrogant Chinese blowing his money in the casino and outside kicking the beggars in the ass....so disgusting!! I couldn't enjoy wasting one single Baht quietly inside such a casino knowing that I could make one of the poor creatures outside much happier with this one Baht. Probably the weirdest place on this earth.

Whisper -

Are the Cambodian casinos straight or rigged?

Sounds like it would be a fun side trip!

Don't get ripped off like Whisper.

For those, who doubt I have the knowledge please ignore this post and do it your way ...

In short, there are two ways to get to Aranyaprathet (or Aran in short).

1 - Morchit Northern Bus Terminal
(You can get there by taxi or BTS and taxi)

Taxi from around Sukhumvit to Morchit THB 130
Bus fare: THB 162 aircon

Buses leave every 20-30 minutes or so. Try to catch the 7.30 am bus to be back on time in Bangkok by the night.

2 - Train (Hualamphong - Aranyaprathet)
Stops at Hualamphong (5.55 am), Makkasan (6:08 am), Klong Tan(6.16 am), Hua Mark(6.25am)

Taxi from eg Sukhumvit to Klong Tan: THB 37
Train fare: THB 47 (3rd class)from Klong Tan. A whopping THB 2 more if you leave from Makkasan.

The train station and bus station in Aran are located at a short distance of each other.

Continue your quest with a 15 minute tuk tuk ride.
Fare: THB 50

Turn left and follow the road (you'll see loads of wooden carts) then turn left again. Ignore the scores of begging children by walking fast (they won't keep up with you) and refuse all offers of umbrella services. Don't even think about giving THB 1 to any of the kids or you're doomed ...

You see Thai Immigration Departure. Get in line to have your passport stamped. If you have overstay, don't worry, pay THB 200 per day to the lasy at the table. (I have overstay every month, no problems).

Then walk out turn left straight on across the road and you'll see Visa Cambodia. You will be handed out a form to fill in. You can do that yourself (piece of cake). You don't need any assistance with that. Give the official (or visa tout) the form together with a passport photo and THB 1.000. The visa tout will give it to the official and will probably ask you for 'nam jai'. Give him your friendliest smile and wait at the area with the blue chairs.

The visa tout will hand your passport with your visa over and probably asks again for a tip. Another friendly smile and walk into Cambodia (the left of the chairs).
As of yesterday, no formalities anymore for SARS.

Walk straight on for another 150 meters, avoid the children again, pass a hotel/casino, and you will see a small building on the right where you receive a immigration card. Now if you look better dressed than an average backpacker, you will problably asked if you would like the 'express' service. Refuse as nowadays I've seen never more than 7 people in line.

Get to the counter. Hand them over your passport and card (there is an unofficial THB 100 entry fee) and your passport will be stamped. Cross the road, be careful not to get hit by any wooden carts or minvans, and enter the exit office.

Have you passport stamped with an exit stamp (official used to ask for a tip, but seems to have forgotten about it). Walk all the way back where you came from.
Cross the road and walk through the left bridge lane.
Again more hurdles of children and lepors and you reach your final destination ... the Thai immigration office.

Have your passport stamped (no request for tips anymore, we have arrived in a civilized country after all, haven't we) and you're on your way back to the tuk tuk who will bring you back to the train- or bus station.

Now let's sum up the costs again (Whisper, this is for you):

1 - Train fare  THB 47 (you'll get a stiff butt)
2 - Bus Fare THB 162 aircon (you'll get a stiff butt anyway)
3 - Tuk tuk to / from bus station THB 50
4 - Touts - just your smile
5 - Cambodia visa fee: THB 1,000
6 - Passport stamping THB 100

That's it.

PS Details valid as of 24 hours ago. Subject to change.

Where were you last Saturday when I needed you, Dr Love?
Anyway, your visit did not include a visit to a massage parlour.
