I guess not. Or perhaps those in the know won't say.
Pity because in many ways les femmes de la Burma sont plus belles que des femme des autres pays, les thais aussi. (pardon my French).
I thought at least I would have gotten a scolding for being here. I mean, I scolded myself for many years just for wanting to come. But my tax driver from the airport: "Bush should invade us, like he did in Iraq, and kill these generals. Bomb them." and "Please tell your friends to come. We need more vistors from other contries so much." Complex feelings.
Back to the hotel room.

Well I was there about 2 years ago...
P4P and basically interaction with farang is frowned upon to say the least. However, if you go to one of the upmarket (all relative) discos you will find that there is a rush to grab you as soon as you enter the place.
Underground at the Sofitel is probably the number one spot (and most upmarket). Most of my fun was at BME Entertainment at the City Lake Hotel (I think). This was 2 years ago... so things could have changed.
You wont believe how few tourists and farang are there (I went to the Shewagon (just unbelievable) and didnt see another white face for 2 hours. My hotel was 5% full. You are unlikely to go wandering around the bars or anywhere at night.

ladies in the Grand Royal Plaza (aka Sofitel) on Alanpaya road.....
asking price is $50 but this is soon negotiated down to $35.
Alternatively, try BME........from about 10.30 - 11pm though.
Before that, try JJs.....big place, loads of talent but with poor English skills.
Max will be approx $20
Or......more local nightclubs will be found in the downtown area, shwadagon pagoda road.
Zero Zone, Emporer, Palace.......
expect to be asked for $15 for an all nighter.
Girls like to be gone by 6am.
Careful though, there's few starfish amongst 'em.
But gems are to be found if you've got a bit of patience

Thanks NIck,
I went to a funny bar the other night, but I couldn't read what people were saying to me. Girls love to say "Hello! and ask for my number, but they seem too sweet, too open or vulnerable for what I had in mind. I was stumped, and that coupled with my own uncertainty about the hotel guest policy... I ended up teaching them English and world geography (well, that's something.)

you went to a bar?
Can you by any chance remember the name?
imho there are no decent bars in the whole city.
Best places for a drink are the nightclubs.
Ask the girls to teach you a little burmese
Did they really ask for your number, as in your phone number?
Things must have changed since I was last there. I go there quite regularly, was there in dec last year.
My nights out followed the pattern of:
1. 9pm - shwedagon pagado road - there are about 5 nightclubs to choose from.
2. 11pm - JJs
3. late - BME
there are other places, such as the Music Club underneath the Grand Royal Plaza, but I'd rather not pay $6 a drink when it's only a dollar anywhere else.
Kandawgyi Palace is another venue, but there aren't many girls there. Drink prices are pretty steep too.
