On my next trip to BKK, I'm planning a few days in Seoul, South Korea. I have seen some sites for Seoul Hotels and the majority start at 50,000 won and up. I guess I'm used to the cheaper rates in BKK. Can anyone suggest a cheap basic hotel with or without a window. Breakfast doesn't have to be included, but something close to the subway. I noticed some of the cheaper rooms don't have windows, but will take one without if its cheap enough. This hotel would not have to be gf. Thanks.

There are many hotels in Seoul that are in the 30,000 (@U.S. $30) price range which are great. The hotels I'm thinking of are known as "Love Hotels" for obvious reasons. During the day, these are short time hotels, but don't compare them to s-t hotels in LOS. They don't operate so much for P4P as much as for couples who have no privacy at home. Of course, they're fine with and for P4P, too. They're almost always super clean, have cable tv, heat/air con, etc. and the best ones are found in bunches. For example, the area right outside the Seoul University subway stop has around 30 or so in just a few square blocks. It's not much of an area to hang out in, but its accessability to the subway means that you are good to go. There are countless others, those are just the ones that I know best because I live in the area. There are also many barber shops (massage, etc.) in the area.
These hotels will not be found on any websites, but if you just show up their should be no problem. Send me a pm if you have questions.

You probably want to just find a simple "yogwan". They are like mom and pop hotel/motels. If you do a search on the word yogwan you will probably find a symbol they all use to designate themselves as such. They are very basic. No room service. I don't know if they are the same as what tardisrider is referring to but the price is probably about the same. If you are adventurous enough to just pick an area you want and go there and find the yogwans that might be the way to go. The thing also with taxis in Korea is that there are so many streets that they don't know all of them. You usually have to give them some type of landmark like a subway station or a hotel and they head that way. You might be able to tell them when you get to the area "yogwan" and maybe they will drive you to a couple of places around there. It's been quite awhile since I've been there, maybe 7 years ago.

Thanks for the information. I went to worldinn.com and they have some motels or yogwan. Not sure if anyone has booked with this service before, but it looks okay.

Bombphewy, you are talking about the old ones.
Nowadays, the new ones or newly refurbished ones do not have those symbols on their signs.
As a korean, I suggest that you just can find any motel that the price ranges from 30,000 to 50,000 and mostly you are expected to pay about 40,000. You also can stay at yoi=in=sook which is a cheap lodging, but bad facility. Since there are so many yoi-kwan or motels in Seoul you won't have a difficulty to find one, but during the weekend you will experience a difficulty.
I am pretty sure there are many more yoikwans or motels than pattaya.
