Went to Tijuana (Mexico) this weekend with a bunch of friends and had the opportunity to engage and compare the hospitality of the local scene.
The short summary - if you're looking for a quick way to 'stick it in', and don't want to brave the escort services, and low quality (but high attitude) hookers of the US, Tijuana will certainly do in a pinch. At $20-$60 a pop (or $10-$20 if you know how to negotiate), the price is certainly reasonable - but don't expect more than 20-30 minutes out of it for that (at least for a first-tmer).
In general, a comparison between TJ and LOS is more like Apple's and Oranges -- they aren't in the same league, unless you frequent the likes of 'Soi 7' in Udonthani (in which case you can get the same service for under $3, but with a shiver running down your back).
While the bars (in our case Adelitas, Chicago Club, and Hong Kong) didn't start hopping until at least 9 or 10 pm, street action started around 6 or 7. I took one of each (bar girl and street girl), and found the street girl to have a nicer attitude (but with a sample of 1 each, this isn't representative) - it also helped that I ended up picking a true star performer with an equal reputation from the street (more on that later).
Both girls provided the same services - CBJ, FS, multiple positions. The bar girl (CC) was $60 (+ $11 for the hotel), for 30 minutes. The street girl was $20 (for 15 minutes) and $5.50 for the hotel. I upped the time with the street girl to 30 minutes ($40) and the same for the hotel ($11).
In both cases, the girls were all business, not much emoting, though very accomodating. They varied in quality of service - the bar girl being more of a starfish (would that make her a 'camarones'?), while the street girl was more conversational, had a funny attitude, and was FAR better in her technique. I'd revisit the same SG, and most likely pick different BGs on my next visit.
No LT in either case, not GFE, not even any inclination to join us for a dinner or buying the girls a small meal - Time's a' wasting, in and out!
I heard that some of these are possible if you become a regular, or build up a relationship with a girl, but not sure if I'm interested in that.
In terms of quality - about 80% of the girls are (IMO, YMMV) completely forgettable - either fat, roadmapped due to babies, old, or just ugly), the rest are spread out between gorgeous but with attitude, or stunners/spinner, that are accessible. Due to the very rich environment, there's something for everyone, and due to the high traffic, if you miss 'your' girl, you really just have to wait 10-15 minutes for her to return.
Certainly, compared to travelling 15-20 hours, and spending $1000 for a week, it'll do in a pinch, but I still feel that my $1000 buys me a lot better quality, attitude and quantity once in LOS.

Daffy -- What hotel did you stay at? I'm always on the lookout for other places to stay. I'm tired of the Nelson and Caesar's; I walked through a nice place between these two on the east side of Revolucion but have yet to try it.
I love to get a Cuban cigar and have a smoke and drink in El Dandy Del Sur. And there are some great restaurants in TJ, particularly away from La Zona Roja. Not a bad place for a weekend getaway.

I went down there with another forum member on three occasions, where we spent the night. He was quite suprised the time he awoke in the middle of the night after a skank had unlatched his window and climbed into his room. It was the Hotel Leyla, or something to that effect, next door to Chicago Club, so we don't recommend that place. Adelitas is fun, one night we drank there until almost dawn, not many gringos were left standing, and it was fun to walk the streets and talk to the girls. Less chance of being mugged now with more street lighting in Zona Norte.
Personally, I don't like the sprint to finish in the short time rooms, without any pussy licking or tit sucking, I just don't find this kind of mechanical quick sex very satisfying (either in TJ or Amsterdam). I'd go more for the tequila than the girls, although some were quite attractive, or the smoke in the case of AMS, although girls in AMS let me touch their tits. In LOS, I come for the girls.

None - we got there at 4 opm, we left at 1:00am.
I intend to stay overnight next time, as I plan on getting my seats in my car re-upholstered in leather, which I would estimate to take a solid day - so I'll know more about hotels next time (I hope).
Any good recommendations?

I think I know the 'nice' place Ronnie is referring to on Revolution, but I can't recall the name, or maybe it was Nelson. It cost about $50 a night, and included coffee and a jelly roll in the morning. There were some drunken gringos that woke me up at 5 AM because they were so loud in the corridor, but at least the desk clerk came and told them to get into their rooms.
Be careful of buying cigars, there are lots of fakes. Check the band closely, and remember, it's not a good sign if 'Habana' is spelled incorrectly.

I'm like 10-15 minutes from the border and hit TJ about 2 weeks ago. Tagged a BG in one of the curtained-off booths in one bars on Rev. Ave. Bambi's I believe it was. Price was $50. About the same what I'm used to paying for a cute streeter in the U.S.
Overall I think TJ is cool, but pales compared to the action and quality of girls in BKK.

After quite a few tequilas, bought a fake Monticristo last trip down there. Could tell as soon as I lit up, since it was harsh. Compared with a good one, the cigar looked OK but the band was slightly discolored and the pattern wasn't an exact match. Take a band of your favorite and compare closely, also smell the cigar. Otherwise, might have a better chance with a turbo, check that it fits the tube well. Sorry, I can't remember the name if the place where I got the good ones.
Be aware that customs will, at a minimum, confiscate any Cuban cigars you attempt to bring back to the US (and probably smoke them later), and a US citizen is in violation of the law by even purchasing Cuban cigars abroad, albeit difficult to enforce.
