Took me about 4 days to get the Visa if my memory is correct. I did try to get it myself, I would advise just using a travel agent to get it.
Real pain to get it yourself. Got lost trying to find the Embassy then found out it was closed I was to late in the day. Have to get the paperwork filled out and then go back early in the morning (was told to get there at 8 am - ha good luck I never would get there by 8).
Said the hell with it will pay the few baht extra and get a travel agent to get it for me.

I did it a couple of years back, right at the time they upped the sanctions and disallowed the use of credit cards.
I hope you first realise the extent of how money mgmt. there is such a humungous pain in the ass, and plan for same. You will not be able to use credit cards at all!
Instead, you must take small denomination US bills. Any bills having the slightest tear will not be acceptible. You will have the option to convert your cash to govt. script that is nearly worthless at the airport, or, you may choose instead to find a currency trader who will delight in the ATM who just enganged his services looking to engage their currency blackmarket.
If you plan to stay at a decent hotel and/or for any length of time you're looking at carrying a substantial amount of cash on you...

I gave 1600 bath over the flight ticket price to the travel agency in Bangkok and I had a proper visa on my passport the next day. Same day if you go there in the morning. You can do the same by going yourself to the embassy but it's IMO a waste of time for the couple of hundred bath it saves you.

Pussy forum or not nobody should consider going to Burma without reading about it's history. It is currently ruled by an evil military junta which has driven the people and it's national economy into the ground.

Good boy... are you implying that no foreign money and people should enter Myanmar or only that one should get information beforehand?
I'd recommend going to Myanmar and spend there, some money will go to the junta and some, more if you try that way, to the underground economy. Boycotting countries hasn't shown much of a benefit during the recent years for the people living inside
