When I first arrived I said exactly what you said - "there must be something". Bzzzzzt - wrong.
Sorry mate - try the Priviledge Club on Thursday nights - normally membership but Thursday not required. That will give you a taste of what to expect for your time here. One girl walks in and the whole place stops and stares! Sad.
There are some places where the local girls work but it takes serious beer goggles I am told. Only heard bad reports of people waking up, realising what they have done and chewing their arms off so as not to wake the monkey next to them.
All there is for after work are the numerous expat clubs with their access to booze and polite conversation.
As for me - TG322 this Thursday

I have spent a lot of time in Dhaka Bangaldesh and can assure you that there is NOTHING going on in the way of nightlife. The only option I know of is to stay at the Sonargaon Hotel (very nice and expensive) and tell the boys that take your luggage up to your room that you are looking for a girl. They come into the hotel late in the evening after 11PM. Other than that, behave yourself in Dhaka!
