Normal taxi from Narita to downtown Tokyo will easily cost over 20,000 Yen.

Narita is probably the worst airport for access to/from town – long and if traffic is bad then it can take forever. Two best options to/from airport are limousine bus, or train.

The limousine bus has several different locations they run to, depending on your destination. For the Four Seasons hotel your bus would be the Mejiro/Korakuen area hotels bus. The bus will cost around 3,000 yen. Or if you do not want to wait for a bus direct to your hotel you can take one of the more regularly scheduled buses to TCAT – they run every 10-20 min depending on the time of day (2,900 Yen) - then taxi to hotel.

You can take local trains but this can also take forever and not that easy for gaijin (foreigners) to use. But there are two express train services (Narita Express (operated by JR East), and the Keisei Limited Express (operated by Keisei) ) that have regular service to/from Narita. The Narita Express would get you to Tokyo Station for about 2,900 Yen, and the Keisei line would get you to Ueno Station for under 2,000 Yen. Train into town, then taxi on to hotel.

Helpful links:
TCAT:

Narita Express:

I do not have a good link for the Keisei line. But this is the line I typically use. The train can be a bit difficult if you have a lot of luggage. But the bus is no problem – they load/unload your luggage for you on the bus. There is an electronic map in both terminals that indicates traffic congestion, and if traffic is really bad then I take the train, if traffic is light then I take the bus typically to TCAT. Either train will take about one hour, the bus can take just over an hour if traffic it light, but can take several hours if traffic is heavy (I was once stuck on the bus for over four hours – traffic accident on a Friday evening).

Sorry to inform you....

P4P (if you find it) will not be cheaper, but may cost more.

I had a friend years ago tell me when I was coming to japan to take all the clothes out of my suitcase and just stuff it full of cash.

It's true

This latest posting just reminds me why the FARK I have never been there ( not willing to spend THAT HUGE amount of money).

Hanada is much, much closer to town. Can still get a limousine bus, but they run only about 900 yen to TCAT or about 1,100 yen to your hotel (Mejiro, Korajuen, Kudan area). Taxi is quickest way and even though much more expensive I typical use a taxi to/from Haneda. But not needto have the hotel arrange this. Taxi fare will probably be about 10,000 yen.

P4P is certainly much, much more expensive in Japan than in the rest of Asia. But the “free” scene can be quite enjoyable. Even though the “free” scene can still cost quite a few coin at between 500-1000 yen per drink.

I travel to Japan on quite a regular basis, and used to live there for years. Last trip thru town sitting at the bar at TGIF in Roppongi it turns out the lovely lady sitting next to me is a stewardess on Singapore airlines. Volunteered to show the lovely lady around town that night, and the rest as they say is history - a short history none the less.

If you are there as part of a tour with a famous pop group should be no problem landing the ladies.

On the plus side of things no early closing – many of the bars don’t really get going until around the time BKK bars are closing – many a fond memory of stumbling home the following afternoon after closing bars at 13:00/14:00 (after all they need a few hours to clean up before the next evening festivities begin). Many bars simply remain open until there are not enough punters buying enough drinks to justify remaining open.

quote from IBfarang:between 500-1000 yen per drink.

NOT so bad,,,,I have paid 300 BHT for a Heinekin ( YUCK ) in BKK ( 300 BHT is about 900 yen).

From what I have read it's accomodation that is the killer,,, at least US$ 250 per night for a very average room.

I will keep dreaming for a few more years

Easy to find a decent room for between 10,000 and 15,000 yen – room size is indeed much smaller in Japan, but this is generally true even in the “high-end” joints.

Not too difficult to have a good time for a decent amount of money in Japan/Tokyo. However, you have to know where to go to get the decent prices. And no trip to Japan would really be complete without experiencing some of the more traditional Japanese food and such. To get a good traditional Japanese dining experience not is some mass tour group type setting will easily set you back at least 10,000 yen per person, and can go much much higher depending again on the area, food/drink, and length of time.

Drink prices depend a lot on the bar and location. My “hang-out” in Roppongi drinks run 800 yen for beer, and 1000 yen for mixed drinks. On the up side of things in many bars the pour size is on the high side.
