A friend of mine returned two days ago and suggested I try Bali as a nice place to Holiday-
I thought I would put this post up to see if others here have tried Bali in recent Times?
I also wanted to included this news article as a reminder to be aware of strict laws on drugs in Asia-

The Australian boy arrested in Bali is a well-liked student at a religious school and "a good kid" who used to be seen riding his bike around the streets, neighbours say.
The footy-loving 14-year-old from Newcastle was on holiday in Bali with his parents when Indonesian authorities allegedly caught him on Tuesday with a small amount of cannabis.
A shopkeeper who witnessed the arrest said he was caught in a set-up by Indonesian police (Read more: Boy arrested in Bali sting).
The witness, who works at the Mirah Minimarket, said plain-clothes police officers were waiting for the Central Coast teen for hours because they had been tipped off that he bought 6.9 grams of marijuana earlier that day.
He now faces up to 12 years in an Indonesian prison if convicted

I first went to Bali in 1979, I was with a school friend we were only around 25 year olds and just boys !
The air fair back than was $400 return to Jakarta and our plan was to hit Jakarta for a night than make our way to Thailand as a few of the older guys from our local pub told stories how good Thailand was as they traveled all around the World and kept going back to LOS back in 1974
Well we got to Jakarta with a bag each and our Surf boards and a Thousand Bucks each, not knowing shit no idea really we didn't even have a lonely planet book so off we ventured onto the streets of the Capital, we were blown away with the smell and no one seemed to understand English
So we decided f*** this place it's not our go so we headed back to the airport, Thailand here we cum but there were no flights till the next day but there was I flight to Dempasar (Bali) Ok lets take it and go surfing Thailand can wait as we were planing a two month break from our jobs and had a lot of time so we thought.
We get a Garuda dc 10 flight to Bali only in the air for what seemed an hour or so an than where circling Bali Wow we could see the Waves at Ulu, yes we both had smiles from ear to ear.
First night being green we opt to believe the taxi driver whom has an uncle with rooms for rent,shit hole in Kuta is putting it bluntly.
Next day we hit the Surf unreal perfect waves, we meet some Aussies from the Gold Coast and they say come stay at our losmons (hotel)
We get a couple of bikes and start to explore, great temp about 27cel an a slight breeze not hot like Thailand can be.
Well we had a ball went to the Sari Club and partied with the French girls and others only the Aussie girls wouldn't have a bar of us they only wanted the Balinese boys (sluts) 
Poppies had great food and we were in a surfer heaven and the Balinese were so nice back than but sadly as the years passed and the place was put on the Map by Australia Surfers the local became westernized.
They try and sell you a thai buddha stick on the beach for around $2AUD my mate liked a smoke and other things started getting it to it, he was a lose cannon and on the mushrooms that they sold in an omelet form, he was in his heaven Surf young hot euro girls and drugs.
I on the other hand had a slightly different back ground and thought ahead, Mate I'm not going to Thailand with you as you'll end up in Jail if you don't stop, so we had a fall out and I only stayed for a month and left him there and he stayed another month in Asia.
Well he made his way to Thailand and got into the heavy stuff as he hocked up with some low moles that liked the hammer, he ended up with malaria and made it back to Australia but looked like a skeleton wrapped in glade wrap and had track marks visible which he was proud of.
Our Friendship ended as I have always been against it, sure if you want to have a puff up to you but not the other shit it's not on and not in Asia!
Every year I would go back to Bali taking others alone to enjoy the yearly holiday like it's only 6 hrs away and cheaper than Australia, I stopped in 82 than had a break for 10 years when I went back the place was different Javanese hookers at the bars loud football players on there end of year trips blind drunk yelling racial abuse acting like total Pricks!
The place that I once saw as a Paradise was lost to the new wave tourists, don't get me wrong Bali is a great destination as long as you don't take any substance which the under cover will sell you and than take away your freedom for a lousy joint, maybe it's there pay back to the westerners for changing there Paradise to a over crowded tourist destination.
But as all things in life changes are going to happen, the guy I traveled with only lasted a few more years as he got addicted and over dosed, many of my other friends were pissed off at me as I would not attend the funeral but I have no time for losers even if was my sister or brother I stand to my guns.
I will take my Family Back to Bali next year to meet with SO5 Sister
and spend some time in the Land of the GODS

Former AFL coach Dean Laidley says he's bewildered by a "completely unprovoked" attack on his family by up to 10 bouncers in a Bali bar.
Laidley required stitches after being hit in the head with a bottle, his son's jaw was broken and other family members including women were also injured at the Bounty Bar in Kuta last Friday.
They were on the Indonesian resort island for the wedding of Laidley's daughter.
"It's gone from probably one of the best days of my life when you're walking your daughter down the aisle, to something that I would never have dreamed would have happened to my family and now my extended family," Laidley told ABC radio on Tuesday.
"What broke out was not very nice.
"My son got a broken jaw, a couple of the cousins... their noses have been broken, lots of cuts and lacerations.
"Physically, there's broken bones and cuts and stitches which will all heal, but mentally some of us struggle."
Laidley said they had only been at the bar for an hour when bouncers, for no apparent reason, attacked family members on the dance floor.
"We had our faculties about us, we'd only been there for an hour and all we know is our sons were set upon," he said.
"We've got no idea about what happened, we're trying to find out ourselves.
"The police, from what we can gather, are telling us that these things are set up all the time."
Laidley said he and some family members had returned to Melbourne while others remained in Bali to assist police with their investigation.

Aussie woman in coma after drinking toxic cocktail
AN Australian woman was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital from Lombok in a coma after drinking a toxic cocktail which has killed at least four foreigners.
Jamie Johnston, 25, of Newcastle, is now struggling to speak, can barely walk and her legs are severely burnt after drinking a cocktail called jungle juice at a cafe on the island of Lombok, west of Bali, The Northern Territory News reported.
