everytime I see those ladies selling lotto tickets on wooden boxes, i'm really tempted to buy one or three. can anyone ( tourists ) play & collect ? if so, do different rules apply ? ie, taxes, etc... how often is the drawing ? how do you get the winning #'s ? how much ? what is the min. pot ? do they pay off in one payment or multiple ? any other info would be cool.

Numbers are published in major papers or you can buy the result sheets at vendors. Lowest price to win is B 1000 per ticket - highest is 3.000.000 per ticket. do they pay off in one payment or multiple ? ** 1 payment for winning tickets. any other info would be cool. ** Next draw the winning last 2 numbers are 52!!!

Plays twice a month, 1st and 16th. I've always been suspicious that they might not pay a farang winner of a grand prize, but the odds are so against a non-Thai winning it, we may never know for sure. If they take taxes out, you're still way ahead so why worry about it? There is no minimum jackpot as such. It's not a pari-mutuel game where your odds vary based on the number and wagers of other players. The top prize is always 3,000,000 for one ticket and there are 20 tickets with the same 6-digit number. The grand-prize payoff is lump-sum. You can check the winning numbers at: http://www.glo.or.th or buying a 3 baht results sheet at a news stand. What else do you want to know?

I might be wrong VJ but I think there are 10 tickets with same number. Costs per ticket is B 40 (face value) but normally sold for 45 Baht. Missed the millions again yesterday.

Asian Man, 10 tickets (or 20 with the same number means like this; 1) 123456 2) 123456 3) 123456 4) 123456 ..... ..... 9) 123456 10) 123456 Easy. There are 10 tickets that have the same 123456 numbers. And there another 10 that have 112233 and another 10 that.... If the winning number is 123456 and you have one of those tickets you win. if you happen to have two of those tickets you win twice the same amount. But other people may have bought the same ticket -well, not the same ticket, but another one of the 10 tickets with the same number. Actually, I have no clue. But this is what I think makes sense after reading the posts above. And yes, I am also pulling your leg a bit.

So, buy a set of 10. (same number!) This way you can win a max of B 30.000.000. Soon this is to be raised to an even highter amount.

Not a bad idea - it motivates people to buy in blocks of ten tickets at a time. I wonder if there are restrictions to do this in the US. Would definitely increase sales on tickets. Harry

Each paper ticket has an upper and lower half, each with a face value of 40 baht. They may be split and sold individually although some vendors will refuse to do that before a day or less before the sales deadline. There are 10 sets of each ticket-pair printed, thus 20 total. And since they are all given to the same vendor it's not uncommon for a dozen people in the same town or village to all win shares of the jackpot prize. The normal sales price is 45 per ticket or 90 per two-piece sheet. If anyone tries to charge you farang ass more, tell them off. Farang reu mak! The exception here is on number sets that are particularly auspicious. If flight 468 crashes on 11 April, you can expect to pay a premium for 468468, 114114, 468114 or 114468. 555555, 999999, 595959, 999555, etc would also command a much higher sales price. It does not motivate people to buy more: there is no volume discount, 3 million baht is already unfathomable for most Thais and most see the sense in spreading their money around to different numbers. In many other places this type of gambling is illegal. California for example has a law which requires the Lotto prize to be based on pari-mutuel wagering in which the bettors in effect wager against each other. The jackpot and lesser prizes are never a fixed amount, but only guaranteed minimums in some cases. Pari-mutuel wagering is the same way that odds are set at the horse or dog track.
