Thai's are very superstitous people if any have not noticed. Ghosts and Gypsy's are viewed as reliable sources of information.
I have used this to my advantage. I told my wife that it is very very un-lucky for Westerners to put the toilet seat up. I told her that we believe that there is a spirit that lives in the toilet that likes having the toilet seat down. I have not had to put that damn thing up for almost 3 years now.
Aren't superstitions great!

My personal favorite is the hat on the bed.
I don't allow ANY hat to get near my bed, no matter who the visitor is.
