I thought of starting a thread where we can post Thai trivia. You know, that info that serves no purpose but to make one sound like an smart-ass. I will get started with a couple: * The national anthem of Thailand was composed by a German named Peter Feit. Ok, I guess it was too much to have a foreign royal advisor for music, so he became Thai and became known as Phra Chen-Duriyang. * The Thai military are trained in Lerdrit, the military version of Muay Thai. It doesn't utilize strikes with the fists but with open hands. Forward pressure is a major concept in Lerdrit.

* The flag of Thailand used to be plain red. Then a white elephant was added by Rama IV. Then, the story goes, Rama VI during a flood once saw the flag hanging upside-down, and to prevent this from happening again created a new flag which was symmetrical; basically the one we know today but with the center stripe red. Later the middle color was changed to blue, the color for Friday, the day king Rama VI was born. The three colors red-white-blue stand for nation-religion-king, an unofficial motto of Thailand. * HRH Princess Chakri Sirindhorn was the first member of the Thai Royal Family to graduate from a Thai university (if I remember well it was history and from Chula) - but not sure of this part).

* Edited out as Smegma doesn't think this was trivia and it's his thread so... * As was sortof mentioned by Smegma, if you manage to get a Thai passport you have to change your name. No foreign soundin' names on Thai passports allowed! Cheers

Brocher, the previous king was also born outside Thailand: Germany to be precise. And grew up in Switzerland. Came to Thailand for the first time at the age of 13. He was found shot dead in his sleeping room a few days before he was scheduled to go back to Switzerland. BTW, I think still to this day discussing this topic is illegal in Thailand. Somehow I do not consider the fact where the Kings were born trivia. They are well known facts. Ok, maybe not to uneducated Thai. Well anyone not well educated would know sh_t about any country. But guys like us, international whoremongers? C'mon we should know. Ok, I give it to you, LY would not know for sure.

Not really. Real trivia should be so trivial that it can never become a well known fact.. like... The Siamese cat was brought to Britain from Thailand in 1884 by the British Consul General of Bangkok.
