things that go on around you that make you wonder why :
- TRAFFIC
- driving in the wrong direction on your motor bike to avoid making a U-Turn, even if doing it the proper legal way is better
- driving with no lights on during inclement weather where you can't see your hand in front of your face (or at 8pm at night)
- the guys who pass when they can clearly see you coming, and just flash their lights at you to say "get out of the way"
- folks who come alongside you as you are waiting to make a U-Turn and try to power their way into traffic ahead of you (I use them as a buffer/bumper)
PEDESTRIAN
- crossing the street at a 30 degree angle so it takes you twice as long as if you'd crossed properly at a 90 degree angle
- people walk with their back to traffic on the left side of the road, while they should be facing traffic on the right side
- MANNERS
- elevators, BTS, MRT doors : can you get out of the MRT, BTS, Elevators without some folks blocking your exit who dont' understand that you must exit before they can enter.
- females coming to the gas station in their see-thru nighties even though they are most likely very modest normally
- people who decide where to go next at the top/bottom of an escalator

Me thinks this could be an amusing thead. An interesting topic.
However, the fact that LY started it will have all those who can't stand him chime in on how lame the topic is, and insults will fly. LY will retort and the thread will soon be fu_cked. For what it is worth, for all those that think that LY posts a lot of useless garbage (and plenty do, for sure), there is nothing self-promoting or insulting from him in THIS thread, if you don't want to contribute, then why post here? This is not the Member's Lounge when anyone is free to hurl insults at any other member and their family!
If you want to insult LY and have him respond in kind (or visa-versa), go to the Members Lounge and open just about any thread.
If someone else would have started this thread, these same people would be making intersting contrbutions to it - like the Thai trivia thread.
Maybe LY is changing - give this thread a chance!

Jealousy of girls!!!
Can't understand how bar girls/freelancers etc can get so jealous if they see you at a later date with someone else. Obviously not all do but find it a bit hypocritical. Had one girl ask me to go with her in the BG Soi 7 once, she was boasting how she took 5 blokes the day before!!!! Really wasn't interested after that. An hour later she flipped when I left with someone else.
The elevator door thing I find a problem in most countries. Some folk will just not make the effort to let people off before barging their way on.

The BG jealousy thing totally reeks of double standards. It's ok for them to do multiple guys or gals within the course of a day, but walk away with a different girl than them under your arm...watch out for the Evil Eye!

Let's address a couple of those issues:
- Girls' Jealousy : Yeah, it happens, girls go with multiple guys, and that's 'work', but is she sees you pick up on another girl, they can make a scene. How is this different from western guys seemingly considering it's okay to pursue as many girls as possible (and, it *is* okay), yet if they see any of those girls with another guy, or see an ex-girlfriend with another guy, she's somehow a 'slut'? It's called a double-standard, and it is applied by both sexes on their home turf.
- Elevators Clearance : not much different than in many other countries in the world, including the US. Maybe not as prevalent (it's almost 100% in LOS), but who really cares - it's a different country. You know it happens - deal with it!
- Escalator Idiots : Same same as in the US or Europe. Plenty of those.
- Girls in nighties at gas stations : WHERE?
- Traffic / Driving : clearly, you've never driven in other countries, like Brazil, Or Ecuador, or even Mexico. Not much new there.
I would agree with CG that this is an interesting thread (regardless of who stated it), though I fear it might quickly deteriorate into the usual "things to bitch about, about tha Thais', as these things tend to do.
What I don't get - all of these observations, if one were to bitch about them, are well-known by reading this and other sites, and considering that I assume you are all aware that this is a different country and culture, where is the darn problem? You know it's not your home-country, you know it's different - these folks have a different (by our standards, maybe, amusing or frustrating way) way of doing things. Since you have the awareness of it, why not just enjoy it for the difference that it is, instead of pointing out how 'inferior' or frustrating it is?
Seriously, regardless of how much or how long you live in the country, you are guests, and we are all being tolerated to varying degrees. The lest, I believe, we can all do, is accept LOS for what it is, and enjoy and possibly revel in those differences.
Yes, I will agree with the obvious counter-argument, that it's different when visiting as a tourist, than if you live there - but I'm sure there are plenty of folks that like there on a semi-permanent basis, that have no (or a lot less) issues.
So, my question is:
- Do you grow frustrated because you would rather LOS were more like your own country?
- Do you grow frustrated because you feel the Thais would be better off if they did things your way?
The frustated argument many times is that 'They will never get anywhere', but has anyone considered that maybe some people are happy or satisfied where they are?
