was going to post this under "who wants to marry a bg",
but this thread is about the plus and minus of marriage with a tg.
reason for the post is my long term tg with kid is always asking me why you don't marry me now.
what is to gain from being married for her, and also for me, do I get any rights in los long term visa maybe.
but for her if something happens to me my next of kin is my son he gets it all,
in a nutshell can she come to the uk with this marriage certificate and "suprise darling" as that would not be good,

It sounds like because of this, marriage to her is a huge negative for you. And if you do not want you family and friends to know you are married to her, then what is the point of marrying her?

Issanking no she cannot just come to the UK and suprise you just because your married.
I married mine to bring her to europe and to make sure my son was british with my name (dont live in the uk ) If your not planning to bring her to the uk theres not much point, except the tg grapevine 'why falang no marry, after him leave you wid baby bullshite.
apparantly being married makes it easier to get long time visa, wife is upgrade though she probably want more cash. Again peer pressure is great in thailand.
I got married pure and simple for my son, but I have no assets in my name, any cash I have is stashed away
where she could never find. did not want my kid thinking he was a b-stard child.
Thai women not much different from other women really they marry us and have our kids so they get money the rest of their lives............
In most cases we're a better prospect than a tuk tuk driver................
The marriage thing is again showing off, waste of cash
I think, I never paid sin sot, why she was not a virgin
and no slap up party for the family either booh hoo.
But a lot is about this a slap up party, good luck, lot of money for what.
We went to the marriage registrar and registered, period,bottle of meekong back at hers.
you could spend a 100,000 spash up party somewhere, up to you

I am not an expert on marriage legalities, but my friend who married a TG said he is totally safe her ever trying to get any of his money, shall the marriage go south. Something along the lines that since he got married in Thailand, she can't claim anything. He is a USA guy. I am not sure what are the legalities if he stayed married to her. I understand your NOK considerations. What about a pre nup?
I am sure a lawyer could give you some better advice.

Always start off on the right foot I say. she did get 20k thai gold though and my son was born cost 50k that togeather with flying back and forth cost me enough I thought.
like I said marriage dont mean anything to me, im not religious, just lining others pockets.
I never promised to be faithfull until death us do part do me a favour.
I did only get married in thailand, never in Farangland why ? in two places ?, I know idiots got married here in farangeland then go to thailand get married for the family there.
all very sweet, I dont do sweet though.

ISK... to keep the peace, why not go ahead, and tell her to arrange a thai style wedding i.e. piss up, in the village, this gives her face, re the dowry, well, as we know its only face, you can hand a wad over and have her give most of it back after, as is often done, - the point of it all is, until you then go and register the wedding at a local tee Wah garn or Municipal office, it is not a legal wedding anyway - but the TG and her family should be satisfied. A large % of Thai weddings/mariages are not legally married - that is, they are married in the village as mentioned, but never register it, - I know the hassles it gave me when Guys wanted to check out their loving BG's true status ;
