Not quite sure what's going on here but, apparently, everyone in the country has to register their phone number by the end of December (or by tomorrow, if you happen to be living in the 3 southern provinces) or get your service cut off. Heard about it at work and then last night as the little woman insisted that we go to Central to get our phone numbers registered ASAP... which we did. Just gave a copy of my passport with my phone number and signed it. She had to fill out some form. Haven't read anything about this in the papers. Anyone know the reason? SirTitus

Yes,it is going to wipe out terrorism as they won't be able to set off bombs remotely without someone knowing their name and address.

yes...it has been discussed many times on this forum already. As recently as yesterday in fact. The window to open register has been open for months, this is nothing new, I registered mine some 4 months ago, take your passport to any Telewiz for example. It's because the agitators in the south use mobile phones to detonate bombs. Also Thaksin will make a healthy profit selling new SIM's to people who do not register.

All it means Sir Tit is that next time your phone is stolen, it will be used to blow up a noodle shop and they will be chasing you for it. Or maybe they will chase the bg that calls you and says "how about a blow.....big booooom" ooops.

Most countries now require registration. Switzerland have exactly the same policy as Thailand's. Switzerland did it about a year ago, I think. Before, you could buy a phone and use pre-payment cards, unregistered. The Swiss authorities realised many criminals in Europe had Swiss cards. As did the 9/11 hijackers. I wouldn't get worked up about the Thai policy.
