Hey me bros, I'm coming to the source here...
I'm trying to book my annual flight, can someone who's in BKK ask someone who would really know, when is LK this year?
TAT is still showing 2007 on its site, many BKK/Thailand sites are claiming Nov 13, even more are claiming Nov 12, yet the official Chiang Mai site says DECEMBER 12, and so does the city of Soppong. Some river cruises and hotels in BKK are also booking it for Dec 12.
Stuck in Detroit, with a whole internet full of useless info...

It's on the day of the 12th full moon, which makes it Dec 12th.

Just following their definition...  12th lunar month. According to this calendar, it's Dec 12th. And looking at last year's it was Nov 24th. But if they are insisting on November, then it would November 13th.

However, if you look at the above calendar, the full moon is at 6:19 AM, so they may want to celebrate it on November 12th instead.
Whoa, I get different dates from different sites too!
This one states, Nov. 13th.

One other site lists it as Nov 12th - 13th.
In one forum, a guy referred to his Thai calendar which says it's on Nov. 12th.

Saudi Arabia uses the lunar calendar as well. Ramadan starts on the first day of the 10th month when the new crescent of the moon appears.
You never know when that will be until the moon is actually sighted. When it is seen a cannon is shot and the month starts, but it can vary a day either way from the planned schedule.
I would imagine this is the same concept.

Well, it's still clear and official that the country will be celebrating Loy Krathong on November 12, November 13, November 24 and December 12!
TAT still no response.

Well, this cryptic answer to my simple query of "when is Loy Krathong/Yi Peng this year?" to the TAT:
"Loy Krathong in Sukhothai to start in November every years.
But in 2008 can't fix. You can check in website."
The website is still showing 2007 info.
Oh well.
