Non-P4P gal, 30yrs old, Social worker for the government. Not into ritzy and fancy every day, but who doesn't like a treat. Never married before. A die hard romantic.
Could fit into any surroundings with ease on the outside although inside might not be so comfortable, hates wasting money !
I want to pop the question, I want to get the mix right of somewhere special, but not pretentious. MUST be in Bangkok somewhere, not a club or bar of course, dinner somewhere.
I looked at Vertigo at the Banyan, but I think the menu is restrictive and she'd jump off if she saw the 'check bin' hehe!
She likes Italian food, and of course Thai food. It'll be a Friday evening, can be as early as 5:30pm or later.
I want it to be romantic and special but not extravagant and wasteful.
So, serious romantics need only respond.

River cruises are good. The Shangrila hotel has a romantic one.
In the get the most for the money the Bayoke II skytower buffet would please her.
MK restaurant might do it depending on her background.
There is a great Vietnamese intimate open restaurant on the 5th floor of Siam Discovery, the food is top notch, then there is a Swensen's Ice Cream right next to it to pop the question at.
An afternoon tea set at the Authors Room at the Oriental Hotel, or the Thai restaurant there. Both are real romantic.
Pizza delivered at a nice hotel suite, then pop the question licking sauce off her.
Weekend trip to Koh Chang, then dinner at one of the beach seafood restaurants at White Sand Beach after a nice massage, or at dinner on the pier at the end of the island. This is all real cheap to do.

I've actually settled on the Manohra cruise now, (i've done it several times on various corporate occasions) its classy, romantic and impressive, nice Thai food, but in no way pretentious so remains relaxing and enjoyable. She'll love it.
The big question will be popped as we stop in front of the Grand Palace.

... maybe do it on a weeknight when the Manohra won't be crowded, and you've a chance at a quiet table... think about getting a riverview room at the Anantara and surprise her when you disembark the cruise... call her boss well in advance and ask them to clear her morning schedule the next day, explaining she will be late to work.
... bring... camera.
