I'd like to know the total costs of hiring a private investigator.
I checked thaipivateeye but his rate seems a bit too high for me.
Anyone know a cheap and good private investigator?

I don't know of any P.I's prices that are lower then Thai Private Eyes.
I think you need to rethink what do you need a P.I for?? If you want just general surverlance and general information, then TPE is great.
If you want more indepth reporting like bank records, phone records, ect. then you will most likely have to pay a lot more then what TPE is charging.
I used one that got me any information I wanted, but again, it was on the expensive side. But .. the information far outweighted the fee.

I do not know what Thaiprivateeye charges but "cheap and good" tend to be mutually exclusive terms when you talk about Private Investigation - particularly in places like Thailand.
I am not a PI, I carry out Countermeasures Surveys - "sweeps" looking for electronic listening devices etc. here. I charge US $ 250 - 325 PER HOUR for something that can take over 8 hours and I have quite a long list of regular Clients plus several ad hoc approaches every month.
When you hire a specialist in the Security business reliability is essential, after all if you are willing to spend money to discover or protect information, whoever you hire knows that information must be valuable too, if he achieves what you hired him for he may be tempted to try to auction it to the highest bidder - or simply blackmail you in some way.

gee ... drinks for ABC, DOUBLES for Fanta, I'll have to put the rates up ! As some of the Guys know, i use more my local contacts/knowledge etc. to suss things out, I dont have background skills in law enforcement or electronic work such as Oldhand - but by and large I can usually sort out a TGs actions and her actual personal feelings for the guy concerned ; I normally charge around US$125 a day - and advise most guys normally checking out a TG will take a couple of days, one around her apartment, one around her workplace- of course alot depends on what she does, how accessable she is etc, the bottom line, - if she has talked to / formed a relationship etc. with 1 farang, then why not with others ! Sad to relate, not too much glamour attached to it all, sitting outside some apartment for 4 or 5 hours in the heat, or hanging around half asleep at 3-4am to see if she returns home, are not the greatest pastimes, - I basically started off doing mates favours years ago - and after a dozen plus years here, have built up many useful contacts, that maybe can help, or give some piece of mind, to guys not living here, without doubt, local guys can do most of the work themselves, or have a buddy check up - as to Thai investigators, as ABC says, the good guys, are very good, and very expensive - as the bribe everyone to get your info, the other's, beware - they have been known to "change ships" mid-stream, e.g. "your farang admirer is checking on you - how much for me to not mention your Thai husband!" - likewise, apprently a few TPE copy-cats about, from what I'm told some dont speak Thai. and others dont even live in the Kingdom ! - anyway, as per the norm, am always happy to pass on some ideas/thoughts, as are most guys on the forum ; and the amount of goodwill I've built up over the years, is more than enough to keep me occupied - as to cost, well, many guys think compared to air tickets, hotels etc to check for themselves, it's cheap - however more often than not, I pass on my thoughts on their problem, and thats as far as it go's, as many say,after thinking about it - " I really don't want to know - no point in spoiling a dream "

Agreed ... but think that only comes about by spending alot of time in Thailand !! - when your 1000's of miles away in the wet/cold, you are prone to wonder if your Te-Ruk is at home studying, or in CM2 tossing up between Pinga and BK 555 !!

I'll vouch for TPE too, although I have never used his services, I will say that he is a trustworthy chap! He is a real standup guy that will tell you the truth and won't double-cross you. He has given me tons of advice and so if he charges you $125/day, you will be getting more than $125 worth of service from him. If you are really serious about your "tiruk", it is worth it to make the investment in TPE and get some straight facts beforehand.
Think of it this way, if you spend the money to hire TPE, the info he finds out will be more than worth it because a)Your "tiruk" is indeed telling you the truth (piece of mind) and you can get on with building a relationship or b)She is indeed lying to you and you will know this before you send her countless amounts of money. Like I said, money well spent. And last but not least, he is a likeable guy. Cheers TPE!

Cheers TD, as I say, always happy to pass on some ideas, and with the other wealth of info available thru the forum, you can usually work most things out regarding TG's .... suffice to say, it seems if you do have a nagging doubt, my experience proves 99% of the time your on the money ! Can only repeat, if your keen, and believe she is as well, whilst your away .... park her upcountry with the family, and call her at the village store regularly !!!

Thanks for each one of your feedback. Sound like I should use TPE or none!!
Please understand that I did not mean TPE rate is expensive in general. It is simply not affordable to me.
Since my TG lives in Udon Thani, the total costs, daily rate+air+hotel, to hire TPE would be $600+ and that's simply not affordable to me.
I'm currently sponsoring my TG only about 8k month and after that, I do not have much spare money at all. So I was looking for a cheap alternative but sound like it would be more risky to hire cheap unknown PI.
I trust my TG, but I have read countless bad stories about sponsoring TG and how TGs are lying about love etc. This is my first TG I met from my first trip to BKK.
Well.. so my only option seems continue to trust my TG and no PI for me even if I might be fooled!!  .
