Here's a strange one bros. This has nothing to do with sex unless you have the strangest fetish on earth and a 3 foot long dick! Anyway, have come across the baby elephants both in Patpong and near Nana a few times and did the ol' pay for the greens and feed them bit. Every time I've gone to get my camera and try to find them though, no where to be found. Wanted to get a photo op next time. Anyone have up to date info on best locations to check? I'm sure it changes as I guess it's technically illegal for these people to be doing.

every time i am eating in the food stalls on soi 7 there are some guys passing by with elephants. they like this soi as there is also the pool place and the soi 7 beegarden for potential costumers. for me best place to spot elephants. personally i feel it is a disgrace for these fine animals being taking, trekking all the way down from upcountry to bangkok. i never feed them as more guys feeding them will result in even more elephants in bangkok as the mainly issan owners do not care about these animals and only about the money they can do with them. just recently a chained elephant died in bangkok because his drunlen issaan owner 'forgot to' feed him for a week. probably only had his mind on sangthip! alos a shame when you see how many elephants are targets for drunken car drivers and have to get shot later! so better no money to the elephants. if you really want to have nice pictures go to Chiang Rai and spot them in their natural environment!

Griffen, thanks and good points. I'm not out to save the world, but do empathize. Curious if you or others would apply the same logic to the bar girls? Or is the scape that the elephants don't have choice and the girls do. hmmmm anyway, thanks for the info.... I'll check it out.

I agree with griffin it is better not to encourage this practice, elephants have no place in Bangkok. However, in Phuket around the Lagoon Beach Hotel (I thinks that is how it is spelt), you can go swimming with an elephant in the sea, there is no charge, the elephants are rescued, and the whole purpose of the venture is to educate and encourage tourist not to pay for elephant related tourist activities.

Now we're on to something......picture this: A luxury resort in Phuket loaded with 'rescued' bar girls. You can swim with the girls all you want for free. The purpose of resort is to educate tourists not to pay for bar girl related activities. Sorry.... couldn't resist

OEJ, Hi Brother. Agree with the guys who recommend not to buy some food for these poor animals. By doing so you only encourage those guys to keep walking all day together with the poor elephants through the very hot streets of Bangkok. However, a pic with some of these elephants can be very possible in Soi 7. You will find them very often hanging around.

Theres the bones...anyone wanna put some (non elephant) meat on them?

I agree about the disgraceful way those poor, majestic creatures are being treated, especially seeing how much the elephant is revered in Thai society. However I have to disagree about not feeding them simply because that little bit of food may very well be the only food they have had to eat that day. As brother Griffin said the owners don't care about the animals, only about the money they can make off of them. With that in mind doesn't it stand to reason that the owners are probably only feeding them enough to keep them alive since feeding them any more would cut into their profits. They feed them enough to keep them alive, but they count on the tourist to pay to feed them enough to keep them healthy. Yes it sucks that some Thais would take advantage of those magnificent animals in order to make a profit on the fruits and vegetables they buy to resell to us to feed the elephants, but until the problem is definitely taken care of for good, as brother Yurune suggest it may be soon, then the 40 or 50 baht you spend to feed these animals may save another one from ending up like the one Griffin reported about. Small price to pay I'd say to see to it that at least some of them might live a while longer. Peace
