Remember back in 1997, you couldn't get into places like Plaza Entertainment if you were farang. Now you can. Their rationale for the surchage so they say, is that the farangs make more money than the locals, which is true in most cases. ABC gets the best of both worlds, no surcharge and farang salary.

bht10,000 for an ms? hope the ms was at least a good one. the most i got mugged was bht6000 for a s/t. we asked a taxi driver (mistake1) to take us to a ms. he didn't know any, which was strange. instead, he asked a guy at a bar (mistake2). we all ended up at the siam coffee shop. the guy led us to a pair of girls and negotiated with them in thai on our behalf (mistake3). we were newbies and just sat & stare (mistake4). the s/t experience was pretty bad too.

The service was no different from the normal rates.. The manager and our private driver said the females did not know about the scam, but I am not sure about that. I know that two of the female did know because two buddies were charged .....do not have a heart attack, 40,000 baht and 28,000 baht to take them out for the night. They basically charge them 4 sesssions at 10,000 or 8,0000 per session. We know for a fact that the females got more then 1/2 of that amount.
Anyways, after I informed some of the females I sawe about the inflated prices, I actually was given many freebee's. They would see me on their holidays, or after work. So, maybe I actually came out ahead. ha ha ha !!
Subsequently, now when I go to Mirage I pay the normal rate and the manger that dicked us makes sure that we are happy because we did not complain to his boss about what he had done. So, now I can call ahead and reserve several females before I go and then once I am there can pick which ever one I want!!
Still does not make up for "dickin'" us around before.

when you read ABC's note and the money being paid in the area of support by farangs it sort of gives you a clue why the prices get jacked for us.......some of us (and I won't mention names) pay slightly more (like 200-10000%) more than the market dictates.

TMDawg/ABC, same here. I have found that being Asian seems to help sometimes, other times I am mistaken for Japanese and get a high initial price. I have also found that being able to speak even a little Thai dramatically helps in getting the price to drop. All in all, it depends on the girl and what her preferences are. I know of one girl who told me she only goes with Asians, I thought she just said that to appease me? but so far have only seen her with Asians, so there may be some truth to it. Also, have had other girls tell me they dont like certain races for certain reasons (body odor, cheap, fat, unattractive, rudeness, etc) but I can see each of those characteristics applying more to personality than any race in particular.

I've known some ladies that would only go with Asians (much to my chagrin). For some I've no doubt that it is an affinity for or a genuine attraction to fellow asians, for others it is an assumption of better pay - but at least for a while there was a perception here that HIV was a Falang problem. There were even some MPs which had official No Falang policies and were quite open about stating that as the reason.
It is especially frustrating to me because when my best friend (an ABC) comes to visit from US he does well, but the ladies in the states love his "exotic good looks" too!
Sometimes it's a drag to be boring old white bread.

My understanding of the "surcharge" is that it was introduced "officially" to allow Thais to experience things they otherwise would not usually do (or could not afford). For example if you go to the Grand palace, Farangs pay to enter, Thais go free. If everyone had an equal (and lower) price the Thais would simply not go. CJ etc will be able to put us right on this if I have got it wrong but I have to say I can see some logic in this.
