Guys

Another point not mentioned yet.... If I meet the right girl for the evening at an early hour I might want to go on to a restuarant or something else. Smart casual is OK for everywhere, as well as the possible benefits posted earlier. I am certainlt not talking about tie and jacket.

Oh! and yes I did call in Rivas after a meeting. I was still wearing a necktie and carrying a briefcase. If I recall correctly I was asked for 5000 baht. No chance

Dave,

I don't think your attire had anything to do with it. It is the location, Rivas. The girls there ask for that price. The same girls ask for less at New Wave Pool bar on Soi 7!! I saw a girl in the Soi 7 Beer Garden one day, and she was going for 1,000B, and a few days later I saw her all dressed up in Spasso, you can guess how much she was going to ask.

Thanks BK

In makes me realise that you have to look very close before deciding that one of these high price girls is actually worth it. I never have taken a high price girl... yet

We have talked about how one dresses and the perception that it has.
I think we should also touch on the fact that attitude has just as much to do with perception as in the cloth we wear.

If someone is dressed nicely, but has a stinky attitude, the perception of that person is not a positive one. Vise versa. If someone might not be dressed as nicely, but has a positive/good attitude, then they will be seen in a much better light.

And since the females are our ultimate goal, it's safe to say that most will want a man to have both qualities.

The cloths makes the outward appearance, but the personality makes the person.

I may wear some shorts in Pattaya, but from what I've read I think I'll stick with nice shirts and pants while in BKK. I know it'll be hot, but with any luck I'll be without clothes most of the time!

I think you got that right.

Sure you are right on the attitude bit.  But you can add in to it the issue of behaviour. Last month I was in Tilac bar in cowboy and I was watching the performance of 3 Brits. Frankly it made me ashamed to be Brit. They were loud and drunk and getting worse. There were 3 girls with them and the behaviour towards the girls was horrible, groping ,abusing etc.  The facial expressions and body language of the girls was very clear. They were not enjoying themselves. Sure they left with the guys but I am sure it would be a pure and simple business transaction on their part. To me that it know way to get the best out of any girl.

Dave:
Great point. Behavior has a lot to do with perception. People that go out and act like barbarians, or like people that have no social skills, should just climb back under the rock they came from.

And I am sure those females were reluctant to go out with those "little" boys. You can not call them men!! ha ha ha!!

wildp69.

I guess you have your answer. A definite vote for slacks, shirt and shoes (what you might call "smart casuals") in the evening unless doing just the go-go bar scene. For the go-go bars definitely a pair of shorts and an open front shirt to give the bar girls a chance to let their hands stray a bit

Several questions about clothing:  I have searched the threads and don't quite have a specific idea of what I should bring with me to wear.
I see that casual dress is accepted, but what specific is casual?  Jeans, cotton slacks like Huggers, Old Navy, etc or does the polyster mix give a better impression?
Polo shirts vs. button front sport or dress shirts.  And the biggie: I have several problems with my feet and wear tennis or similar type walking shoes most of the time.  Are these Rebok, Nike and other basically white types acceptable as good taste items?
Also Iam rather tall 6'5' 240# and need 2X shirts, 40"x34" slacks and #12-13 shoes (yea I know there big, but I don't tip over very easily when I get drunk).
Are any of these sizes availble in ready-to-wear shops.  Iam sure they don't have a big-guys store, so any input would help me to know what to bring.
I'll be traveling with only a carry-on bag due to my flight agreement (non-paid courier) and will have to pack very wisely if I can't find anything my size in BK.
If I can't get my size ready-made, how long does a tailor take to deliver slacks or  shirt(s) after a fitting? And what are the average prices?
Any input however vague would be appreciated.

Thanks, Happyface

Happyface:
Casual wear to me is jeans, khaki colored shorts or pants, over-size polo pull overs or button down shirts. I rarely wear long sleeve shirts out, unless I am going to a business dinner, in which case I might wear a suit. I think that any cloths from these designers Banana Republic, Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, and Gap will do. I do not think that you need to dress in dress slacks and a dress shirt. Not unless that is what you are comfortable in wearing in a tropical environment. As for shoes, I wear Skechers or Vans. They are not athletic shoes, but not dress shoes. But, no one cares what type of shoes you were. Just make sure they are comfortable. If anyone asks about your shoes tell them "Why are you looking at my feet when you should be looking at my handsome face!!" ha ha ha!! Somtimes I even goi out in basketball shorts and t-shirt with high tops on. I do get stares, but oh well!! ha ha ha!!

If you buy things off the street vendors, then you will have to get their biggest size. At some stores like Robinsons, the Thai brand cloth run smaller then U.S sizes. I am 6' and 185 lbs. I work out and found that many cloths fit too snug on me. Also, one thing I should point out, is that the cloths tend th shrink after washing. I am not sure why, but I had several shirts become too small after they were washed and dried on a cloths line.

Hope this helps!!
