Quote: from X on 2:34 pm on Mar. 24, 2003 *also KLM and China Airways pricing seems to have the same peaks and lows as Thai Airways.
China air is rated as the most dangerous airline in the world so if you have any other options you might want to look into them first.

Korean Air has a poor safety record as well. Of course, it's all relative. You're a lot safer on pretty much any airline than in a taxi in BKK. Well, maybe not Aeroflot...

Speaking of places with beaches I would consider the time between December until March as high season. I am currently booking the hotels for my next trip at the end of this week. In Phuket the hotel prices drop after the end of March or after mid April. As BK mentioned for Ko Samui July is considered to be part of the high season.

Link, please. I love travel horror stories. Makes me feel better whenever I run into travel roadblocks. Didn't you get royally screwed around when you were heading to BKK a few weeks ago?

Pad, KAL did have a poor saftey record at one time and much of it was resulted from their internal domestic flights, not international. I have flown with them for 3 years (off and on) and their international flight/planes now have one of the youngest fleets in the world and are partly piloted by British, USA and Korean pilots. Check the international accident records of KAL and others over the last 5-7 years, and you will find that SQ have had more misshaps, but yes these were partly attributed to hitting barriers on runways. Still it was an accident. KAL is OK

X. 'It's much the same here with airline ticket prices. A ticket to BKK (or almost anywhere really in SEA) is more expensive in June than it is in January. July & August are more expensive still. Infact the 6 weeks of the school holidays are even more expensive for tickets than the Christmas period. (about 15 euros more per return for August than for Xmas)'. May,June,July,August is Low season,i paid roughly 500 pounds for a flight at this time. they told me Low Season, when i wanted to book for Nov onwards the price was 750-800 pounds. as Bandit says Dec-Mar is high season.

Are we are aware as to where fnguy is travelling from and what local pricing rules could apply? I certainly remember UK tickets to here being cheaper in the months sayjann mentioned, but I wonder if that will change / has changed now that Thailand is targeting families (yeah right) and it has become more accessible / attractive to the summer UK holiday maker?

I think there's a big difference between high season as defined by the airlines & the tourist industry, and high season as witnessed on the ground. in BKK, anyway, the bars struck me as very full (in fact annoyingly crowded) throughout February - FAR busier than in December or even early Jan. There's been a big fall-off this month. From what BigD has posted, it seems to be the same pattern in Pattaya. A couple of weeks ago, Samui was still pretty busy though. If December is deemed 'high season', then I think it's a very artificial exercise. In BKK, anyway, things were very quiet until shortly before Xmas.

Nokna, I can only speak for prices for booking flights from here. There are two "peaks" in prices... 1) the Xmas period (roughly 15 Dec - 2 January) 2) the summer school holiday period, usually mid July to late August. Those 8 weeks are by far the most expensive time for me to book a flight. Even taking into consideration that hotel costs in LOS drop after the Dec, Jan, Feb high... I am still much cheaper travelling in late January or February than I am travelling in July. MUCH cheaper. The cost of my return flight in February with China Airlines was 600 euro (411 UK pounds). That price included 2 nights in a 4 star BKK hotel with breakfast and transfer from the airport to the hotel on arrival. That price remains pretty constant from mid January till end of June, then it shoots up to 869 euros (597 UK pounds) in late June, and that higher price remains till beginning of September). I don't just get these high prices for LOS.... it's the same for everywhere I have looked at or travelled to in SEA. I travelled to India in February a few years ago... February being the best time to travel to that part re weather etc. Friends of mine travelled there in the July... July is shitty weather there. They had the same airline and hotel we had, and they paid some 30% than us. Why? I assume because July/August is the Dutch "high season". I'll agree with you that June/July/August/August are low-season in LOS... but for me they are "high season" prices. The lower hotel costs just do not offset the higher flight prices. (not to mention the weather is generally worse in the Thai low season). What I really don't get is... if you flew with China Airlines out of Amsterdam... why are you getting different prices than me? ----- Yurune, you're right, lol... FN Guy... where are you travelling from? ----- CCVB.... re China Airline's poor safety record.... shhhhhhittttt.... while taking off from BKK airport at 2,30am.... a big flame flew out the engine by our row of seats.... accompanied by a LOUD bang. I just about died. To make matters worse, it seems the flight-deck were totally unaware of it. So the captain came down the stairs and looked out of the bloody window by our seats and told us it was probably a tyre that burst. When we arrived back in Amsterdam there were tons of ground maintanance crews waiting... and they climbed right into the "iffy" engine and started doing stuff to it. Even the captain came onto the tarmac and had a look inside. I guess whatever it was we were lucky. I know it was definitely NOT a tyre!
