You either will love it or hate it. I will be in BKK and Pattiya for Songkran for the 2nd year running.
I find it great fun. I suppose if I was living in BKK for the last 20 years I might start to get fed up with it.
It is basically a good excuse for old farts like me to play with water pistols (The big super soaker type) in the street.
I thought I read an article in the BKK Post saying that the super soaker type water pistols had been banned in LOS this year due to the number of fatalities caused last April.

Also.... be reminded that some venues will close (notably the "barber shops" like Baron, 33, 55...) and others will be operating but with reduced staff due to the number of working girls that want to travel upcountry to visit their families during this period. The key dates are 14, 15 and 16 April but there will be "overlap" to the 13th and 17th.
Griff's got the right idea... it's a good time to be gone unless you've never done one before. Be warned: "wet" doesn't really cover it. If you are out and about on foot or on a motorcycle it's more like "repeatedly drenched to the bone".
Plan accordingly....

yes it will be fun. the reason of songkran festival is bcos the hot months are approaching. thais culture believe that they are closer to the sun in the months to come. thats why they splash water around to cool off  lets hope we can see some braless girls in white

Just saw at this site that super soakers are banned in LOS. Those that get busted with them will have to pay a nice little fine and may get some jail time for their trouble.
