You must be mad. Anything to do with food in Bangkok especialy around soi cow boy, patpaong, NEP you have to pay a shed laod of cash to keep the police off you then you will have to fight every night with guns to keep the local mafia off you then if the police find out your are felang then your bill be 4 times what is was before. All I can say is, if you are mad enough to try it then good luck, you will need it.

Thanks guys for sharing your varied opinions and advice.
My plan was to work in the background, providing the cash, expertise and raw materials and to let a "trust-worthy" Thai gf to be the front.
From my initial calculations, we should be able to rake in 120,000 Baht revenue a month at @12 percent food and operating costs. (BTW Has anyone ever checked out how much business the NEP burger cart is doing?) On one weekend evening, I counted that she must have sold over 70 burgers! At an average of 60 Bht each, she sells over 7,000 baht a night. Not bad.
As long as there is good money coming in, I don't really mind the Food Vendor label.
My Thai lawyer friend assures me that the Police and Mafia can be worked out through them.
What do you bros think?? Please help. Thanks!!

I have myself started business operations in Thailand and Europe and I know how difficult things can get and how to manoeuvre in Thailand.
BTW I am half Thai,half European, but I grew up here in Europe, so I also learned the hard way how to manage business in Thailand, which I started just 1.5 yrs ago.
The essence of my experience in Europe is: Never do business relying totally on others, always be the one in full control yourself.

Relying on other people in business, when success and failure are at stake every minute, I can only recommend you that you should be at least theoretically be able to handle every aspect of your business on your own.
What will happen to your Thai lawyer friend fails to do what he promises? Nothing.

As you point out that you do have limited funds use them wisely and not on a 'trustworthy' TGF (or any other GF), use it on a business that you are able to fully manage yourself.
But if after all the different advice that you get from the bros, than go for it... but make sure you involve your lawyer friend and if possible also the TGF finacially, so they will stick to the deal also in difficult times.

Thanks for your input. Pretty good and sensible advice from thgis forum. Much appreciated! Have been running this idea in my head for the last three weeks and somehow could not be totally convinced. Very undecided, if you can understand this feeling.
Rather than spend all my life savings here in LOS doing what we men do, I thought I could put it to good use with sufficient returns to have a stable livelihood here.
Personally, I am passionate about food and entertaining and I know that I have bloody good product to market. I could possibly sell it to existing food chains but the margins and the marketing will be disappointing as can be expected and as one of you said, I will not have full control.
If any bros out there have some other alternatives, I will be very happy to hear them please.
BTW, BK, my apologies, but the maths was not wrong. She sold 70 burgers in about three hours when I was there observing her and I failed to mention that I multiplied it by two being seven normal hours of operations as a possible projection.

You might want to change your handle to 'Naiveté', just to be more accurate. This had better one heck of a trustworthy TGF, seeing as how it's your finances and your livelyhood at stake. Don't tell us you picked her from the night-time business...

Is he a Thai friend of yours that you have known for a very long time, and who happens to be a lawyer, or a 'friend' you met in a bar, or who was recommended to you by your trustworthy TGF?

The more I read, and the more I see other people's responses, the more I think is that you are setting yourself up for one massive failure - which could be very screwed up if your finances are at stake, and they are limited.
You seem to be relying on too many other people, ad thus setting up too many points of failure. That's never good, unless you have at least several fall-back solutions.
What if your lawyer friend decides he's no longer interested? What if your trustworthy TGF decides she's gonna bail? What if they both bail on the same day?
It seems like you are dead-set to open this up, though, no matter what anyone here has to say - so I wish you the best of luck. Be sure to let us know when the food stand is open, and I'm sure many bros from the forum will stop by. Heck, I certainly will (just make sure you also have squid, or I'm history)
