I am half European half Thai and I had exactly the same thoughts you do have today. And still today I do not like it.
Later I found out that this class mechanism exists everywhere, only the mechanisms are less visible than in LOS. It is only more obvious, as we are not used to it. To some extent I think we have gone blind to the class structures in our own countries.
I second Abraks and BKKbangers observations.
With this clear picture in mind you can navigate within the society structure and NOT becoming a part of it.

I'm an older american with greying hair, not much over 50. I have noticed myself being treated alot better than younger farangs in most places I go, shopping, restuarants, bars, gogos, by the cops.
Traveled with a friend, black hair, my same age, last trip. I was always addressed first. When decisions had to be made, I was always expected to make them. My hotel room was 3 floors above my friend's. He had alot more money than me, but that didn't seem to matter.
I really liked it.............lolol.

Geez... What is the problem you folks have with class systems?
They exist. They are in every single culture that humans inhabit.
Bitching about them doesn't make them go away.
Knowing they exist, learn the rules, use them to your advantage.

Jafa...on the other hand maybe it is just a bitchy (catty?) remark by one female about a group of other women who are not in 'her' crowd.
I guess like the bitchy remarks a member makes about other members because he feels they know he has no class.
