I was here last year for the Big Budha day and sure enough, just about everything was closed. However, IIRC, Hard Rock and CM2 started serving alcohol at midnight (I wasn't there at midnight, but I think there were signs to this effect on an early evening stroll by). Most major hotel bars were supposed to be open, I know I had a drink at Rivas and am fairly certain I hit Spasso as well. Seemed like even what was open was fairly quiet as BG's and FL's probably took the day off....might be a good day to find yourself on a beach somewhere resting up for the 24th when nobody is hungover!

Most activity I saw was fl in nana parking lot. If you want to experience the holiday in fashion, go to the marble temple a few blocks from where the king lives. The whole local police force and high ranking people show up there and one of the main buddhists leads the service around 4:00 pm. They had cameras there, so I think it was a major service. I thought it was interesting.

Last night I saw that the Hard Rock has a sign that says it is closed on Feb 23rd for an "employee party". Well, you may be in luck because the gift shop stays open until 3pm if you need any groovy guitar pins...yikes...!

Wednesday Feb 23rd and Thursday Feb 24th- Makha Bucha Day- Q Bar CLOSED
Makha Busha is an official public holiday. On this day, Buddhists commemorate the first time that the teachings of Buddhism were preached publicy and do not intake alcohol on this day. Q Bar respects this practice and will not be open.
We will re-open on Friday Feb 25

I suggest getting a girl in advance. Easy, no barfine too. Get a Soi 33 girl, maximize value (save 1000-1500 baht bafine). I plan on stocking up (can I assume alcohol is not sold in stores that day either?) and having Dew and a couple of her friends over to the Soi15LoveShack for an evening swim party. Just got back to Europe from LOS.
Arrived in BKK Feb 23 and all regular retail outlets were open: MBK, supermarkets, shops, street stalls, night plaza et al. Also open: barbershops, beauty parlors and non-fishbowl massage places (oily easily available). PP bars and massage shut, next-to-no activity at Soi 7 Beer Garden obviously, but freelancers in abundance along/off Sukhumvit.
Alcohol not available in restaurants - signs up stating this in all places I saw - but available from 7-11 stores no problem.
Really easy finding ladies and doing shopping on this public holiday.

Went to CM2 that night. Business as usual, alcohol serves, even before midnight, and many enthusiatic ladies. Certainly anyone in the mood for some companionship amd fun would not have difficulty there.

I went with two girls to see Budda, walked three times around the temple, two passes around the temple were right behind a real hottie with a perfect ass Then I took the girls back for a pool party at the hotel. No barfines. A nice break from bars.
The only bad part of the night wat that I did not get the number of PerfectAssIGoTempleHottie.
