Hello gents,
Usury laws in TH? Th has basically no specific consumer protection law. One might recall the automobile owners a couple of months back smashing their cars in front of the BKK Nipponese embassy in protest of the absence of legal mandatory warranty for brand new purchased (malfunctioning) vehicles, contractually of course explicitely excluded. TH public prosecutors from time to time prosecute loan sharks invoking common penal law like fraud, extortion, whatever they feel the judge might buy to convict. Mostly however in cases combined with clear cut charges for mutilation of the defaulter inflicted by the loan shark’s hired butcher. In quite some of those cases indeed females get convicted for said offences. I would not be surprised that indeed Chinese ethnicity is dominant in said criminal activity, also reputed to dominate e.g. massage parlor business of course a screen for illegal prostitution. One of said ethnicity even succeeded to get elected for a second time around by a large majority of ethnic Thai after being a pig, later ‘legit’ capitalist tycoon to become nationalist neo-fascist PM fighting drugs by extra-judicial killings and ignoring graft for he stated it is impossible to suppress something that never occurred, of course.
In conclusion to OP: in TH society from top to bottom the baht will crawl thru the mud in case unable to stay upright on the solid, no matter it be out of want or excess.

Where did you get the idea that Thailand has no laws prohibiting the charging of excessive interest nor any Consumer Protection Legislation? Have you ever lived there?

Thailand has consumer protection laws and they are currently being strengthened by the proposed Product Liability Bill which recently passed its first reading by a unanimous vote of 380-0 in the House of Reps.

I have too agree regarding the Thai laws,, a Thai mate of mine who was a money lender is behind bars awaiting the collection of evidence!!!!!
Now back to the original question "where is the BAHT going? "
