This thread proves that one  got through the maze purely by mistake. His randomized ranting exemplifies it. 
But the adventure-seekers will always explore the new frontiers. Not all farangs are going to marry the first bar girl who will give them a BJ, or get hustled into building a house and have to go home bahtless, bitter, and angry.
LOS has both worlds, just like everywhere else. 'Mr Pomposity' is overly cynical, IMHO.

I think Mr. Pomposity is a good observer of a *certain* demographic - though I also feel that you can find this same demographic of losers in any of their home countries, in the same distribution.
The key, I guess, is to not hang out in those same locales.

A few years back someone I know who lives in Thailand kept making the comment that this farang is a loser and that farang is a loser. I just put it down to him being pompous.
I have begun to wonder whether the comments from 'Mr Pomposity' have any validity ?

Like most first impressions - yours was correct. Mr Pomposity does not have a clue. Based that view on this one trip to Soi Cowboy and a weekend in Pattaya no doubt.
Tell him to spend some time around the red-light areas of his own corner of farangland or to take a ride-along with the local police on a Saturday night through the Government housing areas. Losers??? If he opened his eyes he'd see that the farangs in LOS on-average are hi-so compared to what got left behind at home. Enjoy.

Interesting observation but not one I think holds true.
I think you would expect Thais to judge farangs by the people they actually meet - that is fairly typical human nature. If that was the case, then you would onviously expect Thais to have a very low opinion of most farang.
Thais that I know generally realise that they attract a fairly low quality farang to the country. I suspect that most Thais make most assumptions about farang from what they watch on TV rather than personal experience.

This is one of the reasons falang-Thai relations (hips) are so f***ed up.
Many falang think all Thais are thieves and whores while the Thais can readily believe all falang are fat, min, drunken assholes.
Each sees an atypical segment with many of the worst elements of the other and skewed to the lower orders of each society.
Each group lies through their teeth to get some perceived advantage, fuel it with booze, quick money to be paid and made, and the whole thing is a pretty stinky soup.
