Trust the Aussies to essentialize the situation.
I'd reply but I don't know what the heck that word means??!!??
I think its all hinges on that little white card....
If he still has the white card that they handed him on the flight and that he would have filled out prior to joining the queue he did not wait in then I'd say:-
1. Staple the "exit" part of the whitecard in the passport, destroy (burn is good) the entry part. The card has a number and that is what the hotel needs to record. All that is missing is a stamp and a signature from "passport control"
2. When leaving the country just look blank if there is a problem about the card (not hard he is a Pommy afterall). Then it will look like someone Thai made a mistake and they will want to cover that up.
Another option is to have the passport come back into the country without him - bus tour groups coming over on day tours from the south were once good for this - of course you need to find the right type of "old school" visa run company to take care of this.
Last option is "losing" the passport and reporting that loss and getting a new one issued by the Embassy.
Keep in mind this guy has "deliberately and recklessly flouted the laws of the kingdom of Thailand with intent and forethought" or words to that effect. I can't see "mai bpen rai" fitting into the charge anywhere. So I am not sure that going to the Embassy and confessing to what I guess is a "crime" that I have committed on entering the country is going to have a better outcome than any of the three options I have listed above.
Just glad it ain't my problem...enjoy.

I only meet the guy a couple of times, then he went down to Pattaya, and I came home 
From what I remeber he is due back to the UK some time arround now, I will send a txt to my mate and see if he knows what happened to him.

You can have some long waits at immigration, anyone any legit tips how to shorten the wait?
My only contribution is join the first farang line next to the Thai line.
Sometimes you will get invited to move over to the Thai nationals desk.
As for not being patient enough to wait to have your paperwork processed,! Was he patient enough to take TGs knickers off before he shagged her?

Yeah, don't stand in the same line everyone else stands in.
When you arrive, most passengers, like sheep, all congregate towards the same area of the immigration lines, resulting in most of them standing in the same neighborhood of 5-6 lines.
Walk up and down the immigration hall - it's pretty big, and you will invariably see booths with far shorther lines, usually PAST the line where most everyone stands.
I arrive at all times, and never had to wait longer than 5-10 minutes, even when the 'main' lines looked really long.

I agree with DaffyDuck but also another thing you can try is going to the next Terminal Passport Control. I came in on Terminal Two and of coarse the boat load of individual were all standing and waiting at Terminal Two Passport Control. I decided to walk to Terminal One Passport Control and long behold... out of the six available lane... there was a total of two people getting check into the LOS.
Total walk time from Terminal Two to One... 6 minutes.
Total wait time at Terminal One Passport Control... 0 minute.
Total time to wait until Shag Time... priceless...
Give it a go and let us know...

Thats stupid (and given the pissed sex starved poms arrivving in the last 20 years, someone would do this)
My stupidity award though goes to a middle eastern man on the soi 4 corner crossing in bangkok.
He was being victimized by two amused traffic cops for some offence (maybe littering or J walking)
As you would, you try lessen the fine (thats usually taken by them).
But this guy had a quick fit of mega proportions, and went so far as calling brothers and reading Cops numbers, and screaming violent threats like""i will have you both f***ing cut up into Cat food, "...."i want to f***ing kill you little brown arseholes"........The audience was gathered, many in sheer amazement at his blinding rage, and/or courage.
The cops hauled on a smoke smirking, and alittle unsure of what to do next.
Amazingly, they actually told him to go (without fine)
But he didnt.
He continued to rant, and look like a sucide bomber, about to denotate.
Two huge english louts from a bar a few paces away were pleading with the crazied guy to call it a day.
The lights changed for the 4th time and I crossed and left the scence, stunned at this guys stand.
You need guts to threaten Thai cops.

Then again........you need guts not to take a seemingly "'hardcore middle eastern nut" seriously
I heard he walked (after spitting)

The losing your passport idea is not a good one. The Thai computer database keeps records when you enter the kingdom. You will still have a problem when they try to check you out and need your old passport number to exit out of Thailand.
