Thanks, that's exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I appreciate it very much.

badfishlbc,

Which is pretty much what my friend does in the UK with students from Shanghai. Bring them over here and they can stay as long as they pay tuition.

The difference is it is not language training but 'courses in business' that they sign up for.

Duck,

So you are trying to get a Thai into the US through a backdoor is it...

So how are these old women or obviously uneducated women that I've met getting into the USA to work at restaurants? Acceptance from an employer and proof that they're needed? As relatives (which seemed to be the cases sometimes, but not all) ?

Did you read the thread, at all?

Yes, I did, DaffyDuck. Thank you for asking.

It is about Thai girls who have been accepted into community colleges and universities in the US. Few of them are there to study, most are not. They go through an agency which helps them to do that. I did have an understanding of the basic process, though not in as much detail as badfishlbc, as I indicated on the last page. I am glad he gave you the details you need.

However, that does not answer my question about the women who would never do well enough on the TOEFL and could not enter one of those institutions, yet still are going to the US to work in restaurants. Since I have met them, I asked. My question was based on a digression of my own, which is permissible in a Thread, and has not been answered. Did you read my question, at all?

Perhaps you did but you didn't understand it. That is forgivable, of course. Not everyone has an understanding of student visas, or other visas, and I don't want to second-guess you. More importantly, I do not want to imitate those whose insecurity forces them to move so rapidly from a position of surprising ignorance to one of ungentlemanly arrogance. I am disgusted by that sort of behavior, as I am sure you are.

I am also impressed by badfishlbc's thorough knowledge. Though I think that almost anyone could've told you that the prospective student needs an acceptance from an accredited school in the country where he/she wants to attend; it usually has nothing to do with an exchange program as you originally assumed; yes, I am surprised that you would assume that, or that it had to do with them being enrolled in their own country. I realize that you may find it difficult to forgive me, or anyone else, for reminding you of this incorrect assumption; however, let me assure you that I bring it up merely to cast you in a pleasant light. In order for a foreigner to attend an accredited tertiary school in the US, as far as I know you'll have to take the TOEFL exam and attain a requisite score. This is akin to IELTS or TOEIC, Cambridge's Proficiency examinations, etc, esteemed in other places. You may not know what those are, but I mention them simply so that you may have the pleasure of researching these subjects in your own time. You haven't asked about them, so we can't be sure. But I want to make sure every possible angle of your question is covered for you, so that I can proceed with mine with clear conscience.

Maybe I'm missing something or someone can help me understand it more clearly, if inclined to do so... What do you think, badfishlbc... The ones that don't seem to be student material, yet come work in the restaurants? Or are there fewer than some years back?

The problem sj is that you are 'pissin' in the Duck's teacup.

I do not know why he undertook this research but I would bet that it has something with getting a Thai acquaintance to the US to work without having to trouble with the usual requirements for a work authorization.

Who knows it could be a friend or possibly it is related to his persona as an 'all-knowing God' on the ThaiVisa website.

In any event he does not want the truth, he wants to hear what he would like to hear.

As Caesar would say "bardus est quis bardus operor"

I did - simply enough, I did not understand it, so thanks for clarifying.

It's precisely because I do not have any understanding of Student Visa that I started this thread, so, exactly as you supposed - I did not understand the nature of your inquiry. I would have assumed that, due the nature of the 'study' process, these women could have easily used the same method - or, alternatively, using relatives already living here (as you pointed out yourself.)

We can do a test - let's find the dumbest girl we can find, and see if we can get her to the US on a student visa. Just make sure she's cute and has nice tits

But I do appreciate your diligence in trying to cover all the bases in your response, though I appreciate far more badfishlibc's thorough knowledge in this respect, and particularly his sharing of it.

In contrast, CS's contributions were, essentially, useless cut'n'paste, with no bearing on the original line of inquiry - and now he's poutingly tossing out more of the same. No wonder he's a bore.

Au pair? Now that's another interesting angle, though it seems more trouble than the student visa one.

As to the question why I am curious about any of this? Simple -- many seem to labor under the impression that marriage is the only means to get a girl to the US, and I strongly believe that for everything, there is ALWAYS another means to achieve the same goal. It appears that I was right (again), and thanks to badfishlibc, I have confirmation.. Sweetness!

A couple of things to add. I may have given the wrong impression when I said that Language Systems will require that you have statements showing 12k in support. While that is true to get the I20 issued, it is not a guarantee to pass the embassy interview. When they take a look at the TGs assets and if she has little, that will be an immediate red flag and I've known of many cases where the interview didn't even proceed from there. The ideal scenario is that she has an established bank account with a good amount of money in it for at least over a year.

If the TG mentions working in America to support herself the rest of the way, consider the interview over. Students cannot work.

The interview process varies greatly, it depends who you get on what day. You can do the interview in English or Thai, there seems to be no benefit to doing it in either language. I know one gal who said her boyfriend would support her while she went to school and they gave her the damn visa. While Language Systems would recommend that you do not mention a boyfriend or sponsor. It just depends on who you get on any given day.

After a rejection, if you went through a TOEFL prep school like Language Systems, they can get you a conditional acceptance letter from a better school that can help with the 2nd interview. You do not have to go to this school in the end, as long as you get that F1 visa then all you need to do is maintain your status by paying tuition and not becoming a fugitive. Keep in mind during all of this that you do pay for these interviews and I20s and such. The embassy interview was $100 a while ago and I heard it went up. The I20 from Language Systems will run you $75, ESL deposit of $200 (refundable), SEVIS fee $100, express mail fee $50. So about $425 of which $200 is refundable if she gets rejected. Oh yeah, make sure your student has a passport already...

I don't think you will have much luck bringing a farmgirl who can't speak English. If you know the TGs in Thaitown, most of them speak English fairly well by TG standards so I think that's a key as well. Finally, most of the time they will give you 5 years on the visa, even if you ask for 4, they will usually stamp it 5 years.
