Fortunately, I do not carry a wallet when I'm out at night, just enough cash for the evening, and I carry it in my front pocket.
Here's the way it went.
By one of the sets of stairs for the skytrain, just before the BTS entrance, a rather plump Thai girl with an ample bosom approaches me, squishing her boobs up at my face. She is not very attractive at all and I don't think she is a katoey.
She starts hugging me and then another very small girl with a decent set of bolt on boobs also gets in on the act, "We want go with you" etc. This second one may be a katoey, but that was not my sense at the time. It could be the tomboy that Dr. Love referred to.
They start pulling at my crotch, not in my pockets mind you, but on the fabric around the fly. A obvious katoey now approaches. I'm now trying to separate myself but the girls are holding tight.
I don't remember exactly what happens in the next few seconds, but I believe the obvious Katoey is the one who goes into the pockets at this point and that the fly holding is a way of ensuring that the pocket entrances are open. They release me and I walk off, still not suspecting anything.
I get about 50 feet and then reach into my pocket, and discover that I only have 500 baht, when I used to have around 6000. Now I know I've been had. I look back and they are still there...

I remember when I was pickpockeded on Silom Road and the moment I found out - I was so angry - I wanted to kill the peorson/people who did that to me. I kept retracing my steps expecting to see the pickpocket displaying my money and credit cards ! As if that would happen !! I supose if the pickpockets looked intimidating I may not have lashed out - who's to say what I would have done in the heat of the moment.
Looking forward to hear what happened next.....

I always carry my cash, ATM card and one credit card in my front pocket. I do however carry an empty wallet in my back pocket. One of my old ones that I have long since quit using. I'm looking forward to the day that it dissapears and someone gets a pleasant surprise of an empty wallet.

Thanks for the report, I'll know to be extra cautious at that spot from now on (last passed there 1:30 am sunday, and I remember the katoey is a regular there). While in Rio de Janeiro, one girl grabbed my crotch, another flashed her enormous  , then two others moved in behind me to check my back pockets. I had my wallet stuffed into my sock at the time  but haven't felt the necessity in LOS. Maybe time to start.

I asked the old lady who do sewing in the Soi where I stay to modify all the pants I wear in Thailand, adding an extra pocket INSIDE each pant, under one of the back pockets...
This way I can allway carry my passport and most of my money safely...the only way to steal it would be to remove my pants LOL
I keep approx 1000 baht in small notes & coins in my front pocket to pay for ordinary expenses...

That would be the right moment to switch from friendly to hostile behaviour. Some resolute pushing helped me out of a couple of such situations. But stay alert, they might not give up that easy...
A katoey and two girls? Yeah, I can do that... Two or more katoeys? That's another story... If more than one katoey approaches you you have to be on defcon red!
The second (empty) wallet seems to be a brillant idea... You can even insert some funny or nasty shit in there like a  icon etc. Or a slip of paper with a text in Thai saying: "Do not move, you are caught in the act! Your fingers are now contaminated with invisible and unerasable color. A police officer will take care of you soon. You might as well improve your situation and surrender to the police at... police station." LOL

 That brings back memories of my older brothers sewing razor blades behind the lapels of their jackets in the good old days... 
When I (as a young impressionable youth) asked them why do you do that? The reply was.... Ok, now try and grab my lapels and head butt me! OUCH! Classic.
Imagine some Katoey snatching your wallet and leaving his fingertips behind...
Just remember NOT to try and retrieve your wallet when you’re drunk!
