Bought the magic jack from Radio Shack and installed it without any problem. Also tested it using an old phone. Is there any small corded phone that is good to go with magic jack? Hate to carry those bulky phone around.

Why not use the phone inside your hotel room instead of bringing one?

Why bring one at all? The one I am using on my Magic Jack was purchased at Lotus in Pattaya.

Good suggestion, expatchuck. How much does a cheap phone cost in Lotus?

My friend purchased a small phone about the size of a cellphone. It has a regular phone jack coming out of the space that you normally plug in a battery charger. He purchased it on eBay. The phone and magic jack will both fit comfortably in the same jeans pocket although you might get some looks going through airport security. LS

I used a phone at the Jasmine Suites (Soi 23) and it worked without issue. Standard RJ11 jack. Good idea from horntoad. I also brought a Bell Labs phone and left it at my mother-in-law's house. However, if I recall I could use one of their house phones as well without a problem. As an aside, the DSL Internet filters in the USA work just fine with Thailand DSL. Hard to find a cell-phone sized land line phone on the Internet. The one that I found (brand named Innovage) for $11 USA was the last one in stock and really doesn't work well.

You can buy a regular phone with cordless extension for about 1,700 baht. All you really need is a phone that has the standard telephone line input for it to work. If LastSurvivor can install it and I can use the thing, it must be simple.

I use magicjack on my netbook in BKK, connect on WiFi that I "find" outside my hotel window, so it does not need a hardline connection, Magicjack works, but not great or as clear as your home phone, still its cheap and you get a USA phone number. Have fun in BKK

Just a suggestion.. I dont know what your budget is or what features you are looking for, but I use an IPhone for everything. GSM sim for cell coverage in any country including the US, I dont need to bring a computer with me anymore because the screen and interface is actually quite easy for normal applications and you can use wifi, 3g or normal data over your gsm sim. You can find applications for just about anything now including most of the voip phone services for cheap calls to many country's and voip anywhere. Everything you need in one small pakage. cheers enjoy your stay

I agree, I myself have an Ipod Touch (32 Gb) which I use over WiFi (either at home or on the road). For smaller apps, like checking email and reading news, I would even prefer an Ipod Touch over a full size computer or laptop for using Apps such as reading news or watching Youtube vids. If no WiFi is available, I use the GSM connection on my phone.
