While I am not involved in TPE's specialty and basically have been out of the PI game since late 70s in New Orleans, I did used to be in the business.
Dashiel Hammett, author of the Sam Spade novels, was a Pinkerton man in San Francisco in the 20s and 30s.
He recounted how all his life he wanted to go to Asia...see Hong Kong, Shanghai, etc...a really bad case of rice fever. Anyway, a case came along and soon he was on the trail of an embezzler who was varrying a lot of stolen securities. He found the guy was about to debark on a steamer to China. The client was perfectly capable and willing to underwrite a ticket on same ship for Hammett, but, Hammett went ahead and arrested the thief before the ship sailed.
Afterwards Hammett considered what he had done: cheated himself out of his lefelong dream, A FREE TRIP TO THE FAR EAST. He resigned from Pinkerton's, on the grounds that he was too stupid to be a PI.
True story.
Never happened to me, but I HAVE conscientously beaten myself out of some fees by solving things too fast.
One time a gentleman walked into my offices off the lobby of the old Sheraton Charles Hotel, 211 St.Charles Avenue, New Orleans (the old St Charles Hotel, which was the model for the property in the novel and film HOTEL). Since demolished. Anyway the fellow was looking for a long lost brother. I got a $100 retainer and while he waited, looked in the phone book. There was his brother. The client, somewhat abashed for not trying that first, left with the address and phone number. I, somewhat abashed at not milking the case for at least a few days -- went out to lunch.
A LOT of PI work is library work, this was just a really trivial example. Often I resorted to the "crisscross" Haynes directories which list phone numbers by address. Often, the City Directories. The Chamber of Commerce library was nearby and useful.
Nowdays a lot of that is available on CDROM or online and searchable.

Correct, unfortunately not much of chatting up BGs all day and then seeing if they want to go short time, - having told the sponser they are only there to sell drinks ... more like sitting outside an apartment for four or five hours to see who/when she comes home, or waiting at the school she goes to EVERY day, only to find out they have never heard of her !! -

Yes. Since it's the age of technology, I'm sure that a lot of the information can be found of computers or some sort of electronic media. But ... if not, then one can as Sauron said, do Library work as well as face to face work!!
This is why I think that hiring a P.I is important before sponsoring a female!!

Regarding TPE,
I recently used his services and explained to him I was in a hurry and money was not really a concern with me, but a peace of mind was. Although I was not thrilled with his initial ideas, he readily agreed to my idea and set it up quickly. I was kinda shocked at the results, and this was no bargirl. At first I questioned TPE's investigation, but after a few weeks and a week with my TGF, I could not bite my tongue (despite TPE's adivce If was REALLY keen on her to drop it and look at it as a mistake on her part) and discussed this "set-up" or more as a meeting as she understood it with my TGF. To my surprise, she explanined the situation almost (95%) exactly as TPE had e-mailed me. I looked like a fool for doubting his investigation and quickly apologized to him, which I hope he accepted. I found the money well worth it and learned the truth ( or at least scared the shit out of my TGF). I'm still seeing my TGF (yes, stupid but maybe a nice guy and giving her another chance) and I must admit, she is never away from her apartment phone (no not a cell phone or answering service that states she's at home). And have had further follow up's with a different PI, one Thai women and not so noticeable, plus I kinda blew TPE's cover with my TGF. To this date, there are no other phone calls, e-mails, or games being played. I think in the long run, I know what I'm dealing with now (a peace of mind anyone keen on anybody) and think it has helped considerably the relationship between my TGF and myself. I still will not sponsor her, but will make sure I make often trips to support her, but I look at it this way, I make sure I get my money's worth out of her. As for trust, that was lost after TPE's report and her confirmation. She tried to avoid the coversation, but I pursued and said I think you really need to tell me about something. With all the proof TPE gave me (and no I never mentioned anything about TPE, but had a complete cover story lined up, one I won't talk about because of my job), lying or avoiding questions was easily caught by her during our conversation.
I strongly recommend TPE for Set-up investigations. He's the perfect filang, and has friends, that can easily set up a TGF to see how exactly sincere they are, or trying to string along as many filangs as possible. Mine took 3 e-mails and a few phone calls, says alot for sincerity huh??? After we've been seeing each other every month for 3/4 of a year.
The problem about the whole situation was when I confronted her, her reaction was more "how stupid I was lied to by a filang, not me, but TPE, nothing about sincerity. That was the reason I brought it up with her to see her reaction, which I was not impressed.
Again, we seem to be doing fine together now, but I still keep a close eye on her even many miles apart. To me, the game guys is the e-mails. That is the filang string along and to get into that is the utmost. Anybody have any ideas or know how to get inside these e-mails will soon learn the truth and I wish somebody would share an excellent hacker with the rest of us (yes I know an invasion of privacy, but hustling money out of many filangs can't be the exactly moral either) Besides what I'm doing now (a Thai women PI listening, recording, and watching what she writes on the internet) I would love to know a better way with the e-mails.
As for TPE, he did me an excellent job and recommend him to anyone, including most of my friends over here. Excellent for "set-ups", which filangs do better than Thai PI's and a good judge of character. (By the way TPE, her teeth are crooked, more than I ever thought, guess I'm looking at the wrong part of the body)
I hope this helps TPE and I know you know who is writing this. Again, apologize for any questions I had before.
P.S. His advise is free and was constantly flowing to me. I did not follow it as he suggested dumping her, but maybe I like to learn the hard way, or just plain stupid. Again, Thanks TPE..........

cheers also Bud, and absolutely no worries on my part, like you, I was surprised your TG took the bait so readily !! - Daily I come to think Stickmans quote is just so apt, "TG = cunning as a fox, mind of a goldfish" No doubt a few other long term Ex-pat forum members could do a similar job, I think the big help for me, is being here long enough, and having worked with Thais often enough, to understand their way of thinking & approach to matters also - so I dont neccessarily look at things in the logical "farang" way all the time ! Case in point, trying to resurrect a botched surveillance job now - As I was busy, another new commer to the ranks was asked to do a job, he and his TG started by spending the night parked outside the suspects apartment .... Thais are inquistive, seems someone in any block is around 24 hours a day, and a non local, be they Thai or Farang, stands out a mile, you want long term surveillance, and not to be discovered, you need to use locals, hence my big list of motorcycle taxi standby helpers - Many cases, can however be sussed out by chatting with myself, or many of the knowledgeable guys on the forums, as Ive said many times, I wish all this info was available when I first came here - another example, had a chat with a new forum member yesterday, he had met a TG, spent some time together, but no sex, she said she would move in with him, but wanted cash for a car upfront !! he has already caught her out lying on a few occasions, - my advice was to not waste money on me, but get to an R/T meeting, meet a few of the Guys, [ he is fairly new here, but will be here for some time ] and just check out many of the better options available !

Hi am wondering if anyone can guide me. My husband is in Udon Thani with his 'girlfriend'...that's fine nothing against her and not wanting to harm him in anyway but.. I do need to find her phone number and address so that I can arrange for the divorce papers to be served on him.
My question is this are there any reliable investigators in Udon Thani that could either locate her address and phone number or locate him.........or even if someone could tell me how to locate a phone book for the region...I don't know which area of Udon Thani he is in only that he is there and that he is 'paying' for her exclusivity. Think this is what you call 'ti-ruk' but honestly haven't a clue....sorry.....and thanks to anyone that can help.
