Bingo - went like silk. There were stacks of people there and it seemed that all the 'couples' got through, whether you were besuited like me or wearing shorts, pumps and a red England jersey - so it looks to me that most people are right, including you, C, that it is all in the paperwork prep - my sponsorship letter was thorough and helped a great deal - but hard to say exactly why it worked - my lass has plenty of baht in her bank, a house and evidence of self employment - she dressed smart and answered the few questions put to her - and I mean they really did not ask much at all - they just said "as long as she signs this declaration certifying she will return no later than the six months granted you can have the visa" - basically two or three minutes and hey presto.
As to what has been said before, I really think the agencies are a waste of money if you can produce the evidence easily enough - and it seemed that proof of the length of time you have known each other is vital - fortunately my girl had sentimentally kept the mobile phone bill which showed the very first calls she made to me last April - bless her - and that seemd to clinch it - so proof is really important.
We are over the moon of course.
One thing I should add is that the six months will start ticking from the time the visa approval is signed if you dont ask otherwise - I wanted ours to start on a specific date (for us in late Feb, when I will be returning on business, then we can return together). If I had not asked we would have lost six weeks of our visa time, so be warned.
All the best to every one else braving the British Visa section - it really was not difficult at all as long as you have all the right dicuments, a thoughtfully written sponsor letter and proof of of the length of your relationship.
And let me tell you Visa sex is even better than make up sex!!

Good for you Quietsoi, I'm sure you feel real good now. It's reassuring to here that you stand a good chance of success if well prepared.
Interesting you say couples seem to get through-did they interview you to? Does this mean girls stand less chance on their own?
I am submitting my girls application a week today when I arrive in BKK, but as we are only there for a couple of days and then again for one day before I fly out, I e-mailed the embassy to try and arrange the interview in advance - thinking that our chances may be better if I am available for an interview too.
Unfortunately they will not arrange until the application is in and say the waiting time after this is 2 to 3 weeks.This was the reason I was asking about agencys. I was hoping that with their connections they may be able to help with the interview date.
The embassy website is pretty comprehensive in what documentation is required if you follow the links. I am pretty confident that we have everything they ask for.
Good tip about the visa start date - We don't need one for about 3 months.

Well Done, I do have a contact of mine that works in the BKK UK visa section (he screens some girls on medical grounds) and he tells me aslong as all the paper work is in place then they hardly ever refuse a visa, but you are def right the biggest plus is to prove your relationship over time by phone calls etc...........
Nice result and I hope it works out for you......... My Miss6ft does not want to come to cold UK and to be honest I cant blame her.................

I know this is a thread about UK visa. My GF tried to get a German visa (with help and guarantee of a German guy).
They refused the visa on four grounds:
- Do you have any deposits in Thai banks?
No, sir....
- Do you have any children in Thailand to get back to?
No, sir
- Do you possess any land in Thailand?
No, sir
- Do you have a job in Thailand?
No, sir.
I can imagine that the UK embassy asks the same questions and bases its decision on these four questions.

Possibly...but I know for a fact the answer to three of those questions was NO on one successful viisa application I did.

Thanks everyone - a great feeling.
Flik - I think if you cannot attend the interview at the time you want an agency could be worthwhile, but also if you think you have all the right doc's and the right answers - hopefully - then your girl should make it well enough without you. I made sure that I drummed into my TG exactly what to say if they asked certain questions, but they did not ask many of them - mainly concentrating on things that were uncertain to them - her job sounded iffy, and the phone bill she had kept had my old mobile number on it - so she was prepared for them to ask about those things -I was there, too, in fact went up to the window with her without being asked and they did not send me back, and I did not speak until I felt I neede to, let my girl handle it herself - I kept telling her beforehand to make sure she was confident and friendly, and definitiel not to lose it!!! She did not - so if your girl can do fulfill all those criteria she can probably do it herself fine - but she will want you to be there with her, no question - it is intimidating, but as I said, if the homework is done, and looks fine to them, everything will be fine.

I have also heard reference to a senior female member of the embassy staff flying around on a broomstick…

I think I known the member of staff you refer too....she's been around for years.
She can be harsh, but I have dealt with her and so has a good friend, and knowing now how she thinks (to a point) I'd pick her first. She's fair and has quite a good sense of humour, once the tough bit is over. She even complimented me on what a lovely girl I was with when I was there one time.
Then again....iit could be a different person....LOL
