Since this is a topic that is close to my heart (I am somewhat deformed), I feel it necessary to wade in with some comments.
I, too, am an American and cannot use toilet paper (hereinafter referred to as TP) without getting it all over my ass and my hands and the toilet seat and sometimes the walls. TP is a nasty invention made by the military industrial complex of the US in order to make money for Halliburton, which as we all know is still 100% owned by VP Dick Cheney.
I, therefore, in the eternal quest for cleanliness (after all, cleanliness is next to Godliness) do seek out and use the hose by the toilet (hereinafter referred to as THBTT. THBTT has no reference to USTFE so should not be confused by the newbies. When an old hand tells you THBTT, do not hit your search button. Back on subject, the hose must have adequate pressure or it does little good. It should hit you with enough force to life you off the toilet seat approximately 1/3 of an inch to really get the job done.
Now, as far as a bidet goes...I never knew you had to face the f***ing wall and fail to see the wisdom in having a plumbing fixture that has your nose touching the wallpaper while it blows a tepid stream of water up your backside. I still think they are good for washing your feet only.
I got VD off a toilet seat one time.
Enough of this shit.

Regarding your THBTT water pressure issue: agreed. Our hose crapped out last year, so we bought another one (of dubious quality, but T.I.T.).
Now here's where it gets interesting... my TGF complained it just wasn't working right, and we diagnosed the problem as low water pressure. I wasn't getting the space shuttle liftoff you described and neither was the dear girl. At first, I thought, well, we're on the top floor, so there ain't much water pressure ("head," to quote the civil engineers) because we're right under the storage tanks. But dissassembly and further inspection of the new THBTT revealed a sinister plastic FLOW RESTRICTOR FOR GAWD'S SAKES! in the darn thing.
We made short work of that infernal little plastic constipator and once again THBTT was flowing like a champ and order was restored to our commode, er, abode.

Personally I love those ass sprayers...nothing is better to cool the ass off after spicy Thai food and I would like to have one in my home in Falangland. I have a problem though. I live in the northwest US...the water here is ice cold even in summer. I am afraid if I tapped into the incoming water to my toilet it would be so cold when it hit my ass that it would slam shut and be permanently clinched shut for life.
